Title: Speed whiskers
Post by: Rob H on July 18, 2011, 06:42:47 PM
I'm thinking about buying a Farish 371-875 - in the descriptions it states it has speed whiskers but what are they ?

They are the gold coloured, elegantly curved V-shaped markings on the fronts of DMUs in traditional green livery.
They were replaced (in the 60s?) by yellow warning panels, and eventually full yellow ends.

Always found it amusing that they applied speed whiskers to something somewhat sluggish :)
