I have a choice - Modelling, or the seaside, what do you think?
Option 1: Seaside - I need the Vitamin D

You might as well resign yourself to the fact that it is going to be a horrible weekend for weather and get the soldering iron plugged in.
Just make sure you have everything you need as there is nothing worse than being half way through and realising you have run out or don't have something you need
cheers John.
Good advice John, thanks.
now.......do you want to inform my wife? :hmmm:
Model making trumps seaside anytime!
I've never liked the seaside and I lived in or near Bournemouth for most of my life! Last place was 100 yards from the beach...
Thinking about it, I'm not too bothered about the outside. As a child when told to play outside, I'd take my plastic kits out to the patio and build them there! :bounce:

Oh just tell her the dampness will ruin her hair :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
... and make sure she watches the weather forecast ;)
cheers John.
I can see the way advice is going, maybe I should also set up a poll on Seasideforum too?
In mitigation, I was planning to fetch home some sand to experiment with ballast and I will be merely yards from a (disused) railway.
If you do bring sand back it will require a thorough washing as it is full of salt which will corrode all and sundry :'(

Not if I nick it from the building site up the road!! :o
Take SWMBO out for a nice meal on Friday evening and break it to her gently, preferably after a couple of glasses of wine, that as the weather forecast is so appalling for the whole weekend, there seems little point in heading for the coast. It will just be cold and wet for the whole weekend. Don't actually tell her what you plan to do but breakfast in bed on Saturday morning will put her in a good mood for when she does actually twig what's going on.

Don't think she'll get breakfast in bed - there's a layout on it :D

That's my dining table, I'll have you know!
........Mind, I did use the duvet to cover it.

Breakfast in bed ain't quite the same when you're freezing to death because some inconsiderate soul has nicked the duvet
Paul
Well she can't have it on the dining table can she?
Anyway it's all academic anyway; I've been overruled and I'm off to Sandsend.
Apparetnly, we're also going to 'have a chat about the duvet'. Two weeks I've been here and you're already stitching me up >:D

Joking aside; that's a very good point - thanks
Some of the 2mm FS guys use Chinchilla dust as ballast so if there is a Pet shop near the beach... Surely the Missus wants to see the cuddly bunny wabbits...
Also mrs Greybeema asked me what happens to the random pieces of wood I buy whenever we go to the local DIY shop... Ooops didn't think she noticed...

We actually pass "Bunnyland" on the way, I'll pop in! ;)
I know the feeling; whilst 'sowing the seeds' for a negotiation on a bridge purchase, Mrs TC offered to 'make out out of driftwood'
Sandsend's a great place to blow away the cobwebs. I've been there on a few occasions and always had a drenching from spectacular seas! :D

It's my favourite place in the world :claphappy:
And, I'm lucky enough to be *so* close to it, those 'spectacular seas' splash on my bedroom window! :P
You could go to Aberavon beach off Port Talbot, then you can have sun, sea, sand and the smell of heavy metalwork, and oil 8)

Is it your camera-work or the Guinness making it fuzzy? :D

Both! :pint:
I've got an old BR travel poster for Sandsend on one of the walls in my railway shed , reminder of a happy holiday I spent in the area (based at Staithes) exactly 7 years ago . It must have been fab when the line made its way along the coast . According to my "Lost Railways of North & East Yorkshire" the line closed in 1958....too expensive on the maintenance side !! Lovely place . Cheers , Ric
The railway used to run right behind our property, which was then a hotel. Sandsend had a couple of trestle bridges and still has the old station up on the cliff about 200yds from us.
I'll dig out and post some pics when I get back.
........I also have a pic of a cracking letter to the Whitby Gazette about the lack of sand at Staithes; I'll post that too.
Y'all enjoy your weekends, I'm on my way!
I remember when we were there I bought some b&w photos in a touristy shop on the front (just down from where you live) of the line , including the trestle at Sandsend & the one at Staithes . Coming back over (for the first time since that summer, when we stayed in a little cottage at Cowbar) at the beginning of August , to stay 3 nights in a hotel at Runswick Bay....Amazon Local offer . Ric
Runswick is delightful, we often walk there (partly along the old line) - Funny how we always get a bus back though!
I've often thought about modelling Sandsend, but there'd be a lot of scratchbuilding; I need to 'get my eye in' with a bit (lot?) of practice first.
I seem to remember that a few years ago there was a circular layout called Runswick Bay on the exhibition circuit , possibly O gauge . Ric
If I had some bandwidth, I'd upload a picture of my Guinness, with a blue (not (blue, obviously) sea behind it. But I don't, so you'll have to imagine it.
I don't.
Chin-chin boys, have a crackin' weekend xx
I'd have gone for the beach! You can't beat walking along the shore in wild weather
+ the chavs with their pound shop barbecues and football tops won't be cluttering
the place. :D
