Title: Pecorama :)
Post by: JRP on May 30, 2013, 03:51:29 PM
After my surgery I've been taken down to lyme Regis.
Whilst sat in hospital reading a model rail mag I saw the advert, googled it, and realised how close it was.
So I wheeled around there with my 5 year old and the missis pushed the twins round, well I found it fab has anybody else been there ? The beer heights light rail is terrific too.

Just thought I'd share a good trip and see if any others had been, very good value too £4 for access all areas and a train ride, gardens were free.

Brilliant day out. Jon (sorry for poor write up, painkillers have me hazy)

I last went in......1995, or close to it.  I loved it and would certainly go back again if I was nearby.

Hope you're on the mend?

I visited there in the autumn with my lot, had a most excellent day althought it was raining most of it, not that rain made a difference. Got some great piccies of th elight railway and enjoyed the exhibition, some great layouts + some not. Recommended for a day out though!

best wishes
Simon

I went there four years ago and my then four-year-old loved it, especially the Beer Heights Light Railway.

I get there roughly a dozen or more times a year, great fun being a Devon based coach driver it is a popular day out with groups from all over, plus I get free admission, unlimited rides on the train, a £10 voucher for the cafe and discount in the peco shop :D, I knew there was a reason I put up with all the other hassles of the job :confused1:

I've only got good things to say about Pecorama, the Beer heights light railway is one of the best of it's kind.

The shop is a gold mine of useful bits, mostly peco of course !

I went again in late March, just before Easter - freezing weather (especially when you are in a caravan!  :o ) but had a great time at Pecorama! Haven't been there for a few years, but I do like looking at the layouts (especially the Spanish themed one with the lights going from sunrise to sunset and then overnight) and this was also my first chance to get on the Beer Heights railway, which is very enjoyable too! (And I managed to get some 10 foot tanker kits - and have some Robbies Rolling Stock transfers to put on them now too!  :) )

I enjoyed the visit I made several years ago.

Going down to Dorset mid June for a couple of weeks caravanning, when we go there we always go to Lyme Regis so Pecorama is on for a visit this year.

I actually saw my under/over ground idea on there loft conversion layout.

Had 3rd/4th rails and everything very very smart :)

The Spanish night/ day layout was superb :)

I have been there three times now, the most recent last year.

I love the place, and last year Beloved even enjoyed herself...nodding politely as I strolled (ok, dashed about trying not to look 5, which is how I felt) around the layouts...as there was a cream tea in it for her!

I have a special fondness for the BHLR as, being 7 1/4 inch, they have had visiting locos from the SNBR (where I drive sometimes) in the past. "Kestrel" has been down to the coast  :D

Final word on the Pullman cream tea....we were in Devon for a week and had one every day at various places, the Pullman was voted best by Beloved....high praise indeed!  ;D

I was there 3 years ago and loved it.One of my favourites was the Spanish layout, too. That was actually built by Shirley Rowe, wife of Dave Rowe, I believe. Both are very accomplished and well published modellers.

Of course we went on the Beer Heights Light Railway - top notch!
[smg id=5297 type=preview align=center width=400]
Just noticed for the first time - that's Mrs Bealman lurking up there on the footbridge!

Just after I took this photo the loco was uncoupled and turned, and we caught the next run. An enjoyable and memorable morning. I bought a Farish brake van in the shop.... no Peco stuff!  :-[

It's well worth a visit.
Playpark area for the kids,
Nice gardens,
Reasonable restaurant,
Oh yes, did I forget to mention there's a few model layouts plus a minature railway dear?  :-[

Don't forget the Seaton Tramway while you're in the area.

It was a visit to Pecorama in 1977 that converted me to N Gauge  :claphappy:

Great place for inspiration where to put a layout.

Went today. Good place and a lovely long n gauge layout. The shop was so expensive though! £70 for an 08!

Got to visit Pecorama while we were down in Dorset, beautifull gardens and play areas, train ride was very good. Thought we might have seen more layouts in "N" gauge there was only one or was it two? Overall a good day out.

I took my holiday in Devon last year just so I could visit Pecorama.

Well worth making the journey.  As others have said; the gardens are very pleasant, the Beer Heights Light Railway is nice to watch/ride, food in the café is good (I didn't try the cream teas but I see that was a mistake), there is a nice variety of layouts (I could have watched the Spanish diorama all afternoon) and the shop has a great selection of N gauge stuff (even if it is mostly at RRP).

I'm sure I'll go back.

Yes 2, one amazing one in gwr just so they could use their collect locomotives  :D

Can't moan though, the big layout is amazing!

And another show you how small you can make an n gauge layout, which was actually pretty good considering it was fairly small!

Visited Pecorama , a really good day out, SWMBO enjoyed it too and that's a result! Here are a few pics[smg id=26610 type=preview align=center caption="006"][smg id=26611 type=preview align=center caption="007"][smg id=26612 type=preview align=center caption="008"][smg id=26613 type=preview align=center caption="018"][smg id=26614 type=preview align=center caption="019"][smg id=26615 type=preview align=center caption="022"][smg id=26616 type=preview align=center caption="023"][smg id=26617 type=preview align=center caption="024"][smg id=26618 type=preview align=center caption="025"][smg id=26619 type=preview align=center caption="029"][smg id=26620 type=preview align=center caption="032"]

Those are all of the Beer Hights Rly. Here are some of the indoor layouts.[smg id=26621 type=preview align=center caption="033"Thats O gauge, now 2 of a  OO layout[smg id=26622 type=preview align=center caption="035"][smg id=26623 type=preview align=center caption="036"]

While on our way back to the campsite we stopped at Tesco and I got these pics of the Seaton Tramway ( Thinks  2'3" gauge - might make a nice layout in OOn9)[smg id=26627 type=preview align=center caption="042"][smg id=26628 type=preview align=center caption="044"][smg id=26629 type=preview align=center caption="045"][smg id=26630 type=preview align=center caption="047"]

Last time we went, out of season, twas dull and wet meaning we just about had tge place to ourselves to start with at least. Well recommended for anyone visiting the area as others hace mentioned. Also lots of great landscaped gardens if you like that sort of thing.

best wishes
