Hello fellow N Gauge Modellers.
It's that time of year when the annual wish lists are in full swing.
With this in mind I'd like to welcome you to the 2013 N Gauge Forum Loco Poll.
The purpose of this poll is to find out what locos/ units are most sought after by our community.
Please take a moment to read the following and then the fun can begin!
As this poll is to find the most wanted Steam/ Diesel/ Electric Locomotives, DMUs and EMUs, only votes for these will be counted.
(This poll is not for rolling stock)
Votes can be for all new items, or items you want to see re-tooled.
Members are allowed a maximum of 5 votes, you do not have to use up all 5.
There is no limit to how these 5 votes are used.
(E.G. you can vote for 5 EMUs or you could vote for 4 Steam and 1 Diesel etc., the choice is yours)
The poll will run for 4 weeks, all votes must be cast by 00:00 26/05/13
All votes to be sent to myself via PM
with the subject line 'NGF POLL'
(Votes posted on this thread will NOT be counted)
Any votes cast after the voting deadline will not be counted.
All votes cast are final, so please choose wisely
Once all votes are in the results will be calibrated and published on the forum.
As with last year, results will be compared to the MRE results and also passed on to manufacturers. Many of last years top items have since been announced by the manufacturers so let's decide what we'll get in the near future!
Big thanks to Tank for giving me the go ahead with this years poll, and also for keeping the forum running. I would also like to thank Newportnobby for running last year's poll and for giving me some helpful pointers.
I look forward to receiving your votes, and if you have any queries then please get in touch.
Remember to cast your votes by 00:00 26/05/13

Yes you can vote for continental stuff, whether that would be a waste of time is something I cannot answer but one thing I can answer is you are not mucking up this thread by asking a question
cheers John.
can we have a seperate poll for euro and american and world????
tim
You can vote for any loco/unit you like. American, continental etc are more than welcome. I've received a few votes for non British items
Ollie
Not trying to influence anyone's voting but if we are going to present the results to manufacturers they may only be influenced by where the bulk of the votes lie. Just a thought :hmmm:
Right...
My wish list is a follows:

Just PM Orrie with the title 2013 Roco Porr :-X
I have just read through the results of the wishlist poll sponsored by MREMag and some of the main British model rail magazines.

The staggering thing is that the highest polling N gauge item received just 68 votes! OK it is an online poll but widely publicised in the paper press and online lists.
Would any manufacturer choose to pursue their "planned" Pendolino with just 38 votes? Or even the Class 92 with 64 votes?
Mike
Depends how many people voted in total ::)
It can only ever be used to gauge the most popular wanted items, not how many they'll sell. For every vote there are many who might buy it but didn't vote for it, more who knew about the poll but didn't take part, and many more who either didn't know about the poll or aren't even online! ;)

I doubt any company in any sector would base their production plans on a single poll. However I think that manufacturers do look at such polls to see "which way the wind is blowing".
I don't expect Dapol to suddenly jump forward with the class 92 on the basis of this poll but it might be one piece of evidence in its favour. Of course, the disappointing sales of the 86 are one against it.
Hope the manufacturers realise that most serious N gauge modellers are here on the N Gauge Forum and not on some other "trying to please all forum". ::)
There is also an analysis of how many voted, their age group and period of interest.
http://www.mremag.com/sites/10/documents/2013results1.pdf (http://www.mremag.com/sites/10/documents/2013results1.pdf)
So 377 people voted in the N gauge part of the poll, compared to 1843 in the 00 poll. The N Gauge Society is listed as one of the bodies which helped with the poll. It will be interesting to compare the results of the NGF Loco poll with the outcome of the MREMag Wishlist poll. Hope you are right Caz about where the discerning N gauge modeller votes.
Mike
I'm NOT trying to influence any one (might if I thought I could get away with it  - the moderators are too sharp, lol), but does anyone know if any more of the prototype diesels are available in N Gauge? No point voting for something that already exists.
I've got the Deltic (or DP1), and now aquired 10000 (thanks Only Me). I'd like to get Lion, Kestrel, DP2 and Falcon if possible. Probably no one else would care, so I won't trouble anyone.
:NGaugersRule:
Just asking,
John
Lion, Kestrel and Falcon have all been done as kits in the past, so you may be able to find one. Ray (BHE) still does a conversion kit for Falcon I believe.
But if you want all the 'bird' locos you also need Hawk.. which might be rather more obscure.
Personally I'd like the Fell loco in N but I accept the chances of it appearing RTR are minimal !
Thanks EP. Forgive my ignorance, but who is Ray (BHE) and how do I contact him, please?

Well I'm a bit puzzled by the results, given the relatively low voting turnout. Not one of my 'wished-for' items is in the top 50 of anything, and I didn't ask for anything unusual!!! My votes were acknowledeged, and I'd be amazed if no-one else voted for my items.
Di anyone here vote, for example, for an ex-LNER J27 or G5?

Since the vote had just started no one will know that answer till the voting is finished

Got a G5 already .. there is an ancient white metal kit for it which BH Enterprises respun. With a bit of surgery before assembly (thinning the side tanks etc) it will fit onto the Dapol M7 chassis. Even room to fit sound (just)
Union Mills already do the J27 RTR.
Erm, I was referring to the voting on the MRE poll? That poll is now closed, isn't it?

It would be interesting to compare this years results to last years. If I remember rightly;-
The SR Schools was the top of the pile. There is a Schools due out shortly from Dapol.
On the EMU side I think the Brighton Belle came top - which is (allegedly) due out (at some time) from Arnold/Hornby...
I cant remember what came second, third, fourth etc but we should compare this list to last times. If it is wildley different we are proving what a fickle lot we are and how hard it must be for the major manufacturers to identify a subject that they can make money on. If, however it was consistent, then we should be taking it around to those same manufacturers saying that for two years running the same examples have come top in our pole..
I think the majority of the votes will be for stuff that hasn't been produced yet (guilty as charged :-X)...
Thinking about it, I could have voted differently as i'd love a better 61xx large prairie tank... oh well, maybe next time !

The Pendolino was most desired EMU, squeezing the Brighton Belle into second place.
Lets see where it is on the list this year then Pengi..
Thank you to everyone who voted in the Poll. Results will be published within the week so keep an eye out for them! :D
