:hellosign:
Can you help identify this loco please?
A guy at work on discovering that I intend to build an N Gauge layout offered me a loco, he bought if for a fiver at a car boot sale a few years ago and it has sat in a drawer ever since. I bought it off him (two quid, he wouldn't accept more), thinking that even if it was a non-runner I could stand it somewhere on the layout. Got it home, put it on the oval and it runs perfectly even without a clean or lubrication. Only gave it a short run as I don't want to damage the motor. Looking at photos on the net I think it is a rebuilt Royal Scot but am not sure.
Any help would be appreciated

It looks a bit like a royal scot. Im not 100% with steam locos myself but it does look quite similar. even if its just an older version.
A good buy at £2 too
Looks like a Royal Scot but it's not quite right.
However if it runs OK then its good value
By the look of it the loco is a D&M models Royal Scot kit.
It originates from the late 1970s when the only chassis available even remotely suitable was the Farish "Black Five" which it is fitted to. The reason it looks wrong is because the driving wheels are way too small for a Scot (they were even undersize for the Black Five!).
I don't know how long the kit was around for but certainly into the 80s.
At that price for a runner definitely a result!
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Under the chassis on the loco it does say farish, so reckon Roy is probably correct and it is a black 5 chassis. Well I will give it a good clean and try and touch up the paintwork. It will take its place on the Ashdon layout when built shortly. Will have to sort out some Royal Scot cab number transfers for it. At £2 I am well pleased. :claphappy:
