Title: I'M GIVING UP ON N GAUGE!
Post by: moogle on April 01, 2013, 12:30:52 AM
Yes, I'm giving up on N gauge. Fed up of it.  >:(

Going to bin it all and concentrate on my 5.5mm scale narrow gauge layout.

Here's a few pics of it. Its OO track btw, not scale.

I'm not going to believe anything I read today!

Put it to one side? Tick.
Put it in the bucket? Nope. Keep it for the next rainy day.

Moogle - please take us out of our misery and reassure us all that this was just an April fool.
It's well past midday, so just stop it now. It's not big and it's not clever.

Ha! Ha! Yes, its an April Fools joke. Looks like I got a few of you!

I'm not giving up on N gauge. Why would I, its a fantastic scale!

The layout in the photo's was indeed one of mine from back in the 1990's. It was 5.5 mm scale, used OO track, so gave me 3 ft gauge and was a mere 4 ft x 18" in size. It all started when a friend, who was into Dungeons and Dragons, was going to throw out a few fantasy figures he had obtained over the years and would never use. I saw them and said 'don't bin them, I'll have them. Gives me something different to paint up.' When I got them home I thought it'd be nice to make a diorama for them so measured them to get a scale. They were all different heights but the average scale came out as 5.6 mm/ft so I rounded it down for ease. It was when I was making the diorama, one of the thatched cottages in the photo, that I realised the potential with OO track.

I had an N gauge layout at the time which was finished (I know, layouts are never finished!) and thought doing something else would be fun. So St Kees was born, a simple inglenook style layout but lots of fun. There was a brewery, a small dock and ship, two thatched cottages and a church.
Funny how the first two seem to crop up on all my layouts...
Sadly these are the only photos I have of it as it no longer exists.
After a few local exhibitions I scrapped it, sold everything and stuck to just modelling N gauge.

Sorry Tadpole, I've been out most of the day.

Reminds me of an April Fools joke I saw in a model railway magazine donkey's years ago. It was reportedly of a narrow gauge layout, only this one was a real railway, photographed in such a way as to look like a model one. The layouts name was, "Lipra Loof".
