:hellosign: Hi to all, my name is Ian and I am an old fart from Hull in East Yorkshire. Never had a model railway in my life, but now approaching the age of 60 and looking at some of the wonderful creations on the web and in model railway magazines, I feel the need and N Gauge looks to be just the job. Like most, space is a problem and I am initially looking at a 4ft x 2ft module to create a country town scene, nothing too ambitious, but learn as I go along. At the moment I do not own a single item of N Gauge, so a blank canvas (which matches my brain). I intend to trawl through this site for ideas, inspiration and amazement and in return I promise to ask lots of stupid questions.
Regards
Hi Ian  :welcomesign:
Although you have a blank canvas you must have something in mind regarding era and location so we'd be interested to hear about those.
As for being an old fart, I think you'll find there are lots of us ;)

In return we promise to give you lots of sensible answers (well, mostly :-[)
Hi Ian and :welcomesign:
Take your time and have a good read of what the other guys are up to, there will be something that will catch your attention.
As for questions - ask away - we thrive on helping out
cheers John.
G'Day Ian welcome to the forum and the hobby, lots of clued up folks on this forum that love helping out, good luck with it all
From one old fart to another, please stand downwind if we meet!
As another beginner it will be good to see how you progress and please let us know if it goes wrong, not because we can all laugh at your expense, mostly because we have all made almighty C***-ups over the years and we can sympathise!
Ask any question, I do!
Regards Peter.
:thankyousign: Really appreciate the warm welcome, didn't expect a reply so quickly, have just reading my first thread, a wonderful piece on peco wagon kits by Alex. I can see this could be a long evening. Thankyou all again.
Welcome in Ian
I'm sorry but I must immediately take you to task on something:-

There is no such thing as a stupid question on :NGaugeForum: , only one you don't yet know the answer to ;) We've all been there before more or less so never be afraid to ask no matter how basic the question

 Slowly working my way through the Tutorial Section, thought it the best place to start, save asking questions that may have been asked previously. I neglected to mention what era I prefer. I would like steam and early diesels, so British Rail Steam and Green Diesels would be my choice.
Another Old Fart here Ian also in my 60's, you have come to the best place for advice and a big welcome from me, enjoy.

My era is late 50's/early 60's so we have a shared interest and are of similar ages.
Is there any way you can widen the baseboard to 2ft 6in, as that way you can use larger radius curves and run some of the larger Dapol steam locos? :hmmm:

I also have to take you to task on something..
You DO own some N-gauge... You have your account on :NGaugeForum: :P
Hi Ian from another in Hull!
If you are interested, you would be most welcome to visit us at Hull Miniature Railway Society (and if you like what you see join us). All skills and abilities are welcome. We have a very active N gauge group, with currently four layouts between us...
Meetings are Monday and Thursday evenings. See the club website at http://www.hullmrs.org/ (http://www.hullmrs.org/) or contact me by PM for details.

Good choice!
Despite applying brakes, I'm offically an OAP, but what the heck!
I restarted N gauge modelling just over a year ago after a 30+ year break, . It's addictive so watch out!
You'll find this a great forum with loads of help and a fair few laughs along the way.
We all look forward to reading and seeing - cos we love pictures - of how your layout develops.

:claphappy: Hi to all, had a very enlightening time, reading the many threads of various forums on this site. Well I have taken the plunge and ordered a Merseyside Express Set from Hattons, most sites offered the set at between £120 - £150, but Hattons site listed it at £104. I intend to build a small town terminus station and will be using code 55 but I will need a test track for any future locos I buy. So the track will be good for that, it gives me a cheap and limited capability power controller (will do for now) and two Mk1 blood and custards. Finally the prototype Deltic is unlikely to have visited the type of station I intend to model, though it does fall in the time span I am modelling and also I travelled up and down the East Coast Mainline many, many time in the late 60's and 70's behind a growling Deltic so I have a personal connection. Well a bit long winded, but I feel a little like a kid at christmas. Will keep you all informed and hopefully soon will start my own thread on the - Layouts being planned - thread.
Regards and thanks to all for the inspiration and friendship given to this new member.
