thick question of the day....
what is a sanding plant for?
is it literally just to fill up the sand boxes on locos with sand?
tim
And, being equally thick...
Do modern image depots have them, or have they economised, and gone for a bloke with a barrow and a spade?
Cheers,
Phil
To be just a thick as the above is it the same as a coaling plant? :hmmm:
thanks guys, i don't feel so thick anymore!!! lol
i always just thought that someone could fill up the sand boxes with a shovel...
i have a line that comes out the back of my depot, it runs into the yard about 25cm. i was thinking of putting a sanding plant on it... but it would maybe be a strange place for it to go as not accessable apart from running through lane 1 of the shed...
anyway... look forward to some info on this!!!
tim
Quite rare but can be found if you look, i bought this and used the parts for my TMD walkways :)

They seem to be standard kit in modern light rail depots, but trams use a lot of sand and probably need refilling on a daily basis.

Hi,
Here's a photo of the GWR sand bin and furnace at Didcot, it's to the left of 6024 King Edward l http://www.railwaybritain.co.uk/IMG_2467.JPG (http://www.railwaybritain.co.uk/IMG_2467.JPG), there's a four elevation scaled drawing in my much referenced copy of An Historical Survey of Great Western Sheds 1947 by E. Lyons.
Regards, Gerry.
Hi Gerry
I am currently designing a laser cut kit of the Didcot sand dry. I was aiming for a May release but it is more likely to be TINGS in September.

"Most Excellent" news, it'll be added to the coaling stage kit already awaiting the extension plans for my overly protracted current layout build :-[
That would just leave the repair shop and the small matter of the running shed... 8)
