Title: Dapol Nthusiast Club announcement
Post by: Caz on March 08, 2013, 12:05:41 PM
Here's Dapol announcement re their Yahoo group.

QUOTE
We have over the last few weeks done much soul searching with regards to the N'thusiast club and the lack of responses to questions etc on the yahoogroups forum.

We have decided that we will close the yahoogroups forum down within 7 days and replace it with a facebook one that is for invited members (i.e. all members with an e-mail account) to join.

You do not have to be a member of Facebook to view the site.

Once there you will have access to ALL N gauge news at least 48 hours before it's posted on RMweb or Dapol's main Facebook page.

Pictures with the press releases posted there will also be exclusive and they will not be able to be copied into the public domain.

We are working on new items for the revamped newsletter, and this should start going to all members beginning of April.

All new show offers will be notified to members first via facebook, so that those attending can ask for certain items to be put aside.

No NQP's will  be sold at shows and remain the domain of the open weekend, which is pencilled in for the 5/6th of October (confirmation to follow in the newsletter).

Renewal letters are going out as we speak, and the next newsletter has the class 22 and milk tank offer application form inside.

We actively encourage all members who have any ideas on how to make the club better or features you would like considered, to please contact Nikki at   nicolawhitefield@rocketmail.com  or phone her on 01691 776935

Thanks for the 'heads up' Caz. Regarding Dapol im in no major rush to find out 48hrs before of a particular release, as human nature dictates these things dont stay secret for long anyway!
Normally if something is announced 48hrs before, there always seem to be someone ready to 'spill the beans' :confused1:

Y'know, this seems typical for Dapol ... despite being a member of the Club, I've heard very little from them (and had all emails ignored), and I find out about this group from here just as they disband it ...

Not very professional, is it ?

i though all the yahoo groups had been killed long ago, by yahoo themselves??

Never knew there was a yahoo group, but I am on facebook and have been linked into Dapol for a wile now so if they are going to be putting news out on there the better they will get a wider audience than they have had.

Like you, I didn't know there was a Dapol Yahoo group, just saw it mentioned and moaned about a couple of times on their Facebook page.  I also put in a question re the group on their Facebook site and received a personal reply that changes were afoot and announcements were to be made, seems today that did just that.  ;)

For those that don't know, the Dapol Facebook page can be found here; http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dapol-Ltd/214563285228094 (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dapol-Ltd/214563285228094)

It seems that Dapol have taken on board all the criticism levelled at it regarding the lack of info on their website and are now in the process of taking it all back in house and under their control which can only be to the good.

Not useful for those that don't (want to) use Facebook.

I'll continue to wait till the news filters through to here.  :NGF:

Been a member of their Yahoo group for a long time, but it has hardly ever been used by them or anyone. Facebook will be better as it is more modern and allow pictures etc not just text.

Better ?  Debatable ... as per some others, I don't use FaceAche ...

As to pictures etc - what's wrong with their website ?  (rhetorical question, I think most of us know that answer  :P)

In my opinion they should use their website, Facebook and this forum.

I'm sure they'd love to hear from you all mentioning the NGF to them. :D

but won't be able to do anything else (actually from what I remember you can't set up a facebook private anything without everyone accessing it having to be on facesuck)

Dapol never did get the internet, and that hasn't changed. I'd bet on it being closer to 10 minutes on a slow day 8)

Chuckle, that made me laugh.

Still it sounds like they are at least trying to make it relevant, trying to give it some value and keeping the open day, the special releases and the NQP offers which seem to be the main value it has.

Can anyone tell me the details for the class 22 and milk tanker sets as I would be very interested in getting ths set and rejoining the club.

I'm after the livery of the 22 and the company and livery that the tanks are in.

Also the price for the set.

Cheers

Alistair

Not useful for those that don't (want to) use Facebook.

Seems to be a general assumption of a lot of companies these days that everyone is either on Facebook or can't wait to sign up, VERY annoying!  :veryangry:

They say in today's annoucement "Renewal letters are going out as we speak, and the next newsletter has the class 22 and milk tank offer application form inside."  So hopefully we should know a lot more when this arrives.

Wonder if it's worth my while re-joining? I dropped out after the first year but was still able to see the Yahoogroup, which generally seemed to be people complaining about the lack of updates.

I must admit to quite fancying one of the 22+ milk tanker packs, so will see what develops.

I imagine a healthy resale supply on ebay 8)

Not mine, those little beauties will be right at home on my layout. :D

Too bad it is only 1 per member but after seeing what Silver Link goes for now on eBay, I can understand the reasoning.

The Facebook decision is a bit of an odd one. One of the 'features' of FB is that when you make a post only a random 15% of your fans (ie people that liked your page) will see it unless you pay to promote it, which gets very expensive once you've got a decent fan base.

Then again, Yahoo groups is one of the worst spam generating, awful to manage, buggy ways to communicate with a group going, so it must be a case of anything is better.

Hi guys,

Has there been any more news on the 22 and tankers?

Last I heard was mid May for the Class 22 so I guess the N'thusiast's pack would be a little later as they have to be weathered.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Facebook but that's a personal choice.

Is there any value in the idea that members of the NGF could raise a (mass) request that Dapol do as suggested by Tank, via the forum?

I've had mixed responses from emailing Dapol but a message with hundreds of names on it and under the flag of the NGF may get us noticed.

I think Dapol prefer RMWeb, particularly as they have growing ranges in other scales.

I'd love to see a Dapol representative on this site. I've suggested it before to Dapol Dave but think a group email with NGF is a great idea!

I think Karhedron has it right regarding the gauges modelled by Dapol.
The only other thing is.............rest assured Dapol do read the forum. At TINGS in 2011 I got a right boll telling off from Dave Jones as he thought the NGF had a downer on their products following some poor reviews. I, in turn, informed him our members only speak their minds about stuff they have spent their hard earned cash on.
I still don't think he's convinced, though ::)

Bang goes my chance of a bargain from their stand at the next big show  :worried:

Seriously though, not sure that was the right response from Mr J, I mean people would not be annoyed if things worked as they should. Besides, its not as if Bachman products escape criticism when its due!

Just in case you are reading Dave, I am very happy with my 56, 58, 67 and 153....any chance of an NSE 121 for a loyal fan ;)?

Although I agree Facebook is probably a better medium, Yahoo Groups allows pictures too - even slideshows!

I think Dapol do get a fair bit of unwarranted criticism which is due to the fact that Dave Jones and Joel Bright are so accessible to their customers.
Farish don't get as much whinging on forums because they hide more behind the corporate image.
I say keep up the accessability Dapol, It really is a good thing and I for one appreciate it.
Cheers

Accessible ?

I don't see them here, & I don't see my emails being answered to Dapol either !

Both Bachmann & Hornby reply within 24 hours; not necessarily with a solution, but at least it's a reply !

(For good or for bad) Dapol have chosen to use Facebook and RMweb as their preferred methods of communication.

That still makes them accessible in my book. We can't realistically expect them to cover all the various forums (fora?).

Are you sure your emails are getting through to Dave? If in doubt give them a ring.
