Did any one watch James May's (from Top Gear) Model Railway Show/competition tonight on BBC 2 at 20.00hrs? It is called James May's Toy Stories, it was the second one (first episode being filmed in 2009). This was round two, although based on 00 vs H0, this was the best show i've seen on TV all year so far.........
For those of you whom missed it, try watching it on line on BBC i-Player. Its well worth it.
Let me know what you thought/think. Great Stuff in my books

Brilliant..........loved it and James's emotion over his Flying Scotsman (with realistic chuffing sound ;D)
"Do that in P4" ;)
Dont want to admit it on an N forum, but my first delve into model railways was a 00 Hornby Flying Scotsman train set. (my only excuse is that my mum bought it for me from a 'pay weekly catalouge' for my birthday at the time {Kays i think it was called??}), [this is the same catalouge that i would also 'check out' the real models in the ladies fashion department when I was 10-14 yr old and my mum were'nt around! :P :-[ :P] :-[ (My mum will never know to this day, god bless her ;)because in her eyes Im an )
Beside the point, this wrong size/scale train set got me into N somehow........... Thank Gosh :)
I believe it's repeating tomorrow (Monday) on bbc2 at 6 or 7 ish.
I think the contest would have been better if each team had to lay and power their own tracks, as well as provide and drive the trains.
Just finished watching this on bbc i player! thanks for the topic or i would never have known :o
Just a thought on what trains were being used, what would you guys run if faced with that challange? for me it would need to be a pair of class 37`s pulling a full rake of wagons BR blue. But maybe in 0 gauge??
anyway great program well done james may :beers:
:Class37: :Class37: :NGFWagonTour: :NGFWagonTour:
What utter rubbish. It reminded me of WWF. I'd like to know what really happened.

I would have used an A4 pacific Streamline for steam, A Deltic for Diesel and a class 87 for electric, and for the secret weapon bit, i would have incorporated model hover craft techniques into rail....(Yea Right! :smiley-laughing:)

Back in my day it was wwf, how times have changed :-\
I am well, thank you for asking.
keeping up with the docs orders.. from this only time will tell :)
Hey Findus do you remember the undertaker?,He was cool. I also liked the British Bull dog Davey Boy Smith, and I could never forget Rick Flair and Hulk Hogan!!!
Wicked ;D
At least both teams were playing by the same set of rules in 66. It looks like no one told the Germans it was a best of three in this race.
*footnote* The linesman wasn't Russian. He was from Azerbaijan. It's the same as telling a Scotsman he's English. ;D

Fair point, but at the time Russia and Azerbaijan were the USSR in 66, commonly refered to as Russians at the time, much the same way that Andy Murray is Scottish when he loses, but British when he wins ;D :smiley-laughing: ;D (Sorry lawrence :-[Could'nt help it)
WWF = World Wide Fund for nature. It was renamed years ago now.
It continues to trade as World Wildlife Fund in only on country (Canada, New Zealand? can't remember).
