Title: How do I convert a video file to make it suitable for the forum?
Post by: Guy on February 11, 2013, 08:16:26 PM
Hi all,

I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere but I'm afraid I haven't been able to find it.

How do I convert a video file to make it suitable for the showing on the forum? I have noticed that the vast majority of the video files are via You Tube. If this is the methodology how do I get something on to You Tube and from there on to the forum?  :dunce:

Once you have a YouTube account it is pretty easy to upload a video file from your computer. Simply hit the upload link at the top of the page and select the file you want to upload from your computer. I would be very surprised if the file format of your video wasn't one that YouTube accepts:

"YouTube accepts videos uploaded in most container formats, including .AVI, .MKV, .MOV, .MP4, DivX, .FLV, and .ogg and .ogv. These include video formats such as MPEG-4, MPEG, VOB, and .WMV. It also supports 3GP, allowing videos to be uploaded from mobile phones."

Once the video is uploaded Youtube assigns a unique Video URL (web address) for each video. All you need to do is find this and copy it directly into your NGF post. The video then embeds automatically when you post the message - you can check it by looking at your post in preview mode.

To find the Video URL you can either select 'edit' and copy your "Video URL" or you can hit "share" and copy the URL. Here is an example URL (with spaces added to stop it automatically embedding into the forum!)

Just paste the YouTube URL into the editing box and the forum software will do the rest.

You may need to remove the "s" from the "https://" part.
