Watched it last night - don't forget the second instalment is on tonight - and most interesting. Last time I saw any mention of the WHR was in the 1980s, when I last had a holiday in Wales and went on the Ffestiniog. I think the WHR was only in the station area then - amazed it has gone so far, as we used to walk the trackbed in Beddgelert, from the back of the camp site down to the Aberglaslyn tunnels.
Had to switch on the subtitles, when the Welsh engineer was talking to the South African engineer (shame he died - but all those cigarettes!).

Although narrow gauge doesn't float my boat, I found it fascinating and a superb result from herculean efforts. The NIMBY's get everywhere, don't they - just like HS2.
Mind you, I suppose if I had moved there for peace and quiet I would probably grouse too if I didn't like steam railways :-\

That would have been the WHR 1964 Company who to be honest haven't got any further since then and are still pottering around on the same short stretch of line under the title of the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway... The now open line with the Garratts etc is a very different organisation and at times a bitter rival backed by the Ffestiniog Railway.

Hi Paul

Thought you may like to know that the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway is now
linked to the Welsh Highland Railway with a view to running trains to Beddgelert

Gelert to Beddgelert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haQZqyJ70Hk#ws)
