Title: Slowness
Post by: Pengi on January 11, 2013, 01:06:16 PM
Anyone else found the forum to be slow at the moment (about 1pm)? I noticed it was slow about this time yesterday too.

Hi Pengy,

Yup - see my "Is it a conspiracy" post :(

I think we must have posted at the same time!  It is not as slow as when it used to grind to a halt about this time several weeks ago though.

When you're using an 8 year old laptop with an ancient Celeron processor and less than 500MB of ram you don't tend to notice the forum going any slower than usual  :D

Yes I've found it very slow for a few days but thought it was just my PC playing up. Having reformatted the hard drive a reloaded all my software though, it still seems quite slow loading.

For those of you that are following the very useful discussion about slow laptops and computers, I have split out the posts and created a new topic in the Computer Help Section.

http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=10652.msg109383#msg109383 (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=10652.msg109383#msg109383)

This topic is more about the slowness on the Forum

Had another slow run on the forum about 2215 New Zealand time. Lasted for about 10 minutes then seemed to come right. Was only just this site at the time - all the others I had open went fine. Wonder whats broke, need another 20p on the meter??  :computerangry:

Mine seems fine this morning but that may just be because it's Sunday.

Seems fine to me.  Does the "Slowness" co-incide with peak traffic, users etc?  Worth working through...

Tank and Team,

I've had the slowness issues again about 13:00ish, the poor old Server was complaining:

" Temporarily Unavailable
Due to high stress on the server the forum is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

I think we need to give the Server a few weeks off and feed it some happy pills  ;) ;)

Cheers

Neal.

Thought it was a local problem and rebooted my hub before realising it was THAT problem again.

Never mind the forum back up again, all I've got to do now is remember which thread I was reading. :confused2:

Don't know whether its a related issue, but I browse using ny android phone and for rhe whole of this afternoon and this evening, all pages with pictures that are hosted on Photobucket just show an empty box with a small ? mark in a blue box.

When I click and hold the image,I then have to open a new window on my browser to view the picture on the photobucket site.

I've never had to do this before so the question is,why now?

I have that problem when in my truck browsing the forum on my Blackberry. Only happens with Photobucket, all other pictures work OK without problem, so I'm guessing it's more to do with Photobucket than the forum software? ;)

get the blank box problem when viewing at work, but think that is down to the filters the PC police have.

once when I wanted to go on the NGS site it was blocked by the filters ....

reason .....

sexual content ?  :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm: ???

Don't have any filters or safeguards active on my phone browser.I did up to about two years ago and it even blocked RMWeb and to a certain degree newrailwaymodellers.

I had to prove that I am me and I'm over 18 and they,Orange that is,removed the Safeguard thing so I'm free to browse wharever I like,so it isn't that.

As I wrote earlier, its only been doing it today and its not only frustrating, not being able to see pictures but also annoying because when I do open a new window to view the photobucket file,on one occasion I could have almost cooked a dinner, well,a microwave one anyway.
