OK as it is now the new year, has any one made any modelling resolutions.
Mine is to actually finish some of the work in progress items. :confused2:
I also want to do something that means I can just run trains and not just have end to end stuff.
Storage wise the end to end stuff is great but a roundy round using 2 modules -1 scenic and one plain track at the back appeals.
I'm not going to hold my breath on any prospective plans.
Mine is to actually start!
Complete it!
Clear the layouts of projects & get something running regularly & start track laying on Goesrover layout ;)
Build more, play less - simples !

Are you sure you've got that the right way around :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
Strangely enough I was thinking the same only this morning, I wonder which one of us will crack first? >:D Oops - too late! :-[
Having got my upper ovals running and having tested some (notorious?) point haters such as the Dapol A4 and their 9F I am aghast/well pleased they run through everything.
There are still some iffy lumpy bits and poor joins though, some when I stop playing trains :-[ I'll have to sort them out

:laughabovepost: :laughabovepost: :laughabovepost:
Mine is to stop being tempted with buying stuff and to start building using the bits and pieces I've built up over the last year.
I'm also tempted to spend less time on here and more on the layout as it's only just above the computer.
I want to spend more time helping my son with his layout.
Lets see how long I last.

Mine is to build up stock and locos for when we move out in the summer so i can have plenty to run on my layout which hopefully have a more permanent home so an expansion could be planned.
I think i'll try to get sorted with a local club and learn a bit of rail lingo or more importantly what it means like so much stuff that comes up in here that i have no idea what people are talking about.

That's pretty much the same for most layouts mate, that's the whole point of testing before scenery ;) Since you say your 'worst' trains actually run through everything I would class that a success :beers:
My resolution was made last September when I packed the layout away after a week of thorough track and electrical testing following months of wire-soldering - there would be nothing done in the lead up to christmas and then January would see half the layout out at a time so the major scenic work could start. This will happen in the next fortnight

All you have to do is ask ;)
I do it all the time when very inconsiderate people (you all know who you are) fill their posts with abbreviations :veryangry: and they all happily tell me what they mean :-*
cheers John.
Yep, abbreviations can be a PITA :D

Go on and explain that abbreviation on this family friendly forum......nicely.
I have a few:
- Put some final touches to Sheaf to pretty much complete it.
- Start tracklaying on my BIG layout
- Finish off the many re-numbering/re-spraying projects i have started
- Chip more of my locos!

Back on topic; I've just thought of a new year resolution....... try not to be to much of a PITA :smiley-laughing:
well i can see some common resolutions in here which chime with me
1 - finsh my frst 'simple' layout without spending too much time planning the next
2 - buy less and build / make more
3 - but keeping an eye out for new ideas and try not to be tempted too often
All of the above!!!

And mine.
I intend to stop designing and to start the dammed thing.
:hmmm:
I wonder how many designs we all have that never make it beyond paper

I already have several for Basingstoke and Weymouth!
I think this topic could be stickied so we can check back over the year if people stick to their ideas. :hmmm:
I had been looking at another module on a specific idea but have got all my available track out and realized I can do the roundy round I want with the scene I want.
Added bonus is I can fit a Nn3 loop inside.
This will be my first layout that I can just watch stuff go round since my dismantled japanese tram layout.
Last year I build the boards for my layout, gonna be a roundy roundy, loosely based on Basingstoke, with some other elements added.
I want something resembling the Reading branch, the Battledown Flyover and a single line branch. thats the basics.
My resolution is to start laying track and getting the rough idea developed. And to get some Salmon and other engineers type wagons from the NGS.
Good luck folks... Timmo

Your wish is my command :)
Be interesting to see who has done what later this year :hmmm:
Mine is to finish the 3rd rail laying (havent been able to face up to cutting up and glueing the insulated connectors) weather the track and ballast some and complete the scenics on the back tray,,,,,,
now for me this is simple
1 dry line & insulate the shed
2 build the baseboard for the new layout
3 decide on which of the ideas I have for the track
4 buy anyrail
5 design the layout
6 lay the track
7 add buildings
8 add scenery
9 wire up the track
10 wire up the points for the first time
11 ballast track
13 add more rolling stock
14 add more loco's
15 spend time with my three year old and new born baby
but most important of all not annoy the wife to much so that she divorces me before our first wedding anniversary
easy - well apart from the final point
:smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
Well i've started sorting mine i visited a local club last night and was made very welcome so one tick in the box.

Nice one, Dave. You've got to get your 'fix' somehow :)
Hi all
I am going to finish off my layout based on Thorton yard i am doing not too bad the now as had a few days off after New Year back to work mondy and skint but working on the layout will blow away the January blues
kind regards

likewise - or even finalise the track plan. been working on that for over 2 years now! :confused2:
Eyup, Steve.
Not by any chance Chorley, Lancs maybe? Another one for the Lancashire Massive, methinks :hmmm:
We have a great band of us in Lancs, and we're trying to get a lot of folks along to the Preston exhibition (see Events section). How about coming along, and in the meantime, although it's in your head at present, how about telling us what you intend to model (era/location etc) in the Introduction section?
All the best
Properly start... For the past 2 years now it's consisted of a tail-chaser loop on my coffee table. This year is time to get some baseboard made and actually lay some track!
A bit late, but mine would be to get atleast 4/5ths of the layout finished. Since Delfryn is small, I should by rights be able to get the full thing completed. Also need to buy more rolling stock
Third rail and/or ballast!
Blast you and your ballst.
I resolve to stop buying the stuf and actually put some on the layout....
Have bought four bags on four seperate trips to the UK and still haven't got the courage to use it ! :help:

True to my word the 'North' half of the layout is now up on trestles in the lounge with a removable polythene cover, ready for work to start:-

Track ready to lay for my roundy round.
Base board ready.
Waiting for bits of electronic trickery to arrive.
Waiting for Shapeways order of Nn3 tipper trucks.
PSU's ready for the trickery stuff.
Switches,wire, solder etc all ready.
4 weeks before I can do any more on SWMBO's orders.
Planning still going on for the roundy round.
Thought I had every thing finalized but not sure now.
Struggling to fit the narrow gauge/std gauge transfer station in the available space.
Have orders electronic trickery but am now beginning to think I may be biting off too much for the limited space.
My new years resolution is to wreck my brains (what few I have left) trying to come up with something different for my new layout (track already layed)
I have my British steam layout "Cofton Junction" that I am happy with  the prospect of building another British or USA layout next to it doesn't turn me on all that much ??? I have a load of US locos and will figure out what to do with them eventually :claphappy: until then I will continue to wreck my brains 8)

Well if USA or British layouts don't do it for you, then perhaps you should consider a Japanese layout with a rake of bullet trains or a European layout with a fleet of colourful EMUs or even Ireland with it's very smart Hyundai DMUs. Loads of exciting possibilities >:D
Looks like my plans could be scuppered for a while.
Dear grandaughter has now signed up(monkey) and looks like I am going to be building a second board and some track laying for her.
She will be using the peco setrack starter set.
I have not been informed what else is happening yet.

Hi there Jane nice to hear from you, yes I really like the Japanese Railways and can well understand why people want to model them especially as they seem to run so well, I did the Japanese thing about 2005 and accumulated a large fleet of Steam, Diesel and Trams, I don't think I will go down that path again.
What I would really like to do is model Australian in N Gauge but cost is very restrictive with a half decent loco costing $300 or 200 GBP also there is a very limited supply but it is slowly improving.
Most Aussie railways used American style locos from about 1950 on with many the same or similar to their American sisters, the US models I have are perfect for conversion that would resemble Australian diesels, British freight wagons are easily converted to Oz as is many of the USA passenger coaches.
I will decide what to do by around the 15th March when we hope to get away for a 3 week holiday in our caravan, being relaxed and away from the phone would be a perfect time to modify trains resemble Aussie types so it looks like that will be the way to go.
Bits starting to arrive for my new project now!
More electronickery.

Got to hand build some Nn3 track and work out a few other bits still.
Have also got to sort out the baseboard for "monkey"
