Title: Moth balled for 6months!!!
Post by: bbdave on December 23, 2012, 07:52:06 AM
Well the day has finally the in-laws are moving back in :( we have rented their house for two years now they want it back we are cohabiting for six months while we save for a wedding :worried:.

This means my layout can't be used so i've cleared and boxed the stock removed buildings etc and covered it with a polythene cover and it now resides under the bed. So no trains for a whole half year!! :o :'(.

What am i to do.. only so much thumb twiddling a man can manage i have been building an rc submarine but not sure if even this can continue due to needing to work with FG resin

So will my worst fears be realised it doesn't bare thinking about i may have to actually............... :sorrysign: TALK TO THEM!!!!

I would suggest you take refuge in the bosom of the nearest Model Railway Club as (a) it gets you out of the house and (b) you can run some of your stock on their layout(s) while picking their brains for ideas

It'll have to be that most productive of activity; armchair modelling.

Good luck.

6 months may not be too bad.  :(

I've just gone from the start Feb 2012 till three days ago without my layout due to me being taken halfway round the world by the missus. (Next time she suggests "going away" I'll ask a few more questions) and everything has been in storage.  :hmmm:

It has been painful at the very least. Were it not for a day out at a local exhibition with KLINK and being allowed to act as an operator on his club layout, I don't think I would ever have made it.

Peace and tranquillity has now been returned to the household - never knew how exciting a 4 ft oval could be !  :claphappy:

However coming to the forum everyday has been almost as good as having a layout. The pics and comments by all have been great to read and also inspired ideas for the future and for that a big  :thankyousign: goes to everyone who has posted anything from crazy jokes to electronid solutions - you've kept me sane (and probably saved my marriage).

So don't despair. Get your daily fix here and time will soon pass (maybe run a train sim prg).

A few years ago my stepson moved back in for a couple of month, not that I minded but it became a 130 week couple of months!!!!

What a pain. :worried:  Try building a few models in the evenings, ready to put on the layout in the future.  :)  This is what I have to do - although this rarely happens since the newest addition to the family appeared.  Get the inlaws out ASAP before your wife to be suggests the room becomes 'the nursery'! :o     :smiley-laughing:

I know just how you feel, I cant get at my layout until my broken ankle mends and I can climb back into the loft again - I just don't know how long that will be, and I havent been able to see my Blue Pullman in motion yet!!

that's a proper bummer, I can sympathise with you though. Since starting my layout it's been moved from one place to the next. but with starting a new layout in the shed, will have a permanent home for my trains, until then I guess my board just comes out as and when.

The main reason for us co-habiting is this is there house they rented it to us for a couple of years to go and live in a camper van my fiancee and i are using the shared rent and bill time to save for a wedding but after a week we are re evaluating the wedding plans to reduce the length of time which is proving quite difficult  :'(

Hi Dave,

I would suggest adopting the Japanese approach.

Japanese have traditionaly small houses and are tight for space. Thats where Kato uni-track comes in. The whole idea is to quickly snap together some track, whizz your favorite loco around then pack away before evening dinner.

You could even siphon off some wedding savings behind your partners back to buy some uni-track. >:D >:D >:D :dighole:

The plaster cast came off yesterday & I am now gently working towards being fit enough to ascend to the loft again - Happy New Year everybody!!
