That's strange though as I originally asked for 8 bogies, which they said they could send and then sent me an invoice for. However, once I'd seen the price was going to be over £60 in total I decided to drop the amount to 3, for the time being. They must have another 5 still - unless someone else has got in...

Bear in mind that this bogie is essentially the same as that used on many of the new tool models (e.g. Black 5, B1) with the smaller wheels (so the one as supplied, they also come with a full scale wheeled bogie)- so if you can find someone who's using the larger scale-wheeled bogies that doesn't need their other bogie then it would only be a case of fabricating a small replacement drawbar strip for the bogie from brass or the likes.

No problem Ensign Elliott - good luck to you. I would still love to hear whether they fit the Castle and a photo of the end result.

If my experiment tonight is anything to go by, the improved bogie doesn't fit the Castle. The casting under the smokebox on the Castle is deeper and fouls the top of the bogie. I'll upload pictures tomorrow. You'd need to remove a bit of metal on the Castle to change the bogie over - which is probably why Bachmann didn't offer the Castle with an improved bogie.

Ah I see now plus the cylinder block is in a different location. Does the rear bogie wheel fowl the Castle cylinder?

A few pics of a couple of halls with the new bogies fitted. One is a more recent Hall with finer, blackened wheels, the other is a much older hall from about 1995. I had to shave a little plastic off the top of this bogie as the larger pizza cutter wheels are slightly smaller than the more modern wheels and the bogie was making them ride up slightly. Both work fine now though, with no derailments. Next job is to convert the castles to take the new bogies.

Fantastic Mirlees - thank you! I didn't even know Grafar produced this in a Thai livery, let alone anything in any foreign livery (I know they did something in OO, or HO, many years ago - US Steam).

So are these prototypes of the real thing? Are there / were there Thai 158's zipping up and down the Thai railway network?

If I recall correctly I think they may have also done a Dutch 08 (Not Civil Engineering - NS Livery)- another rarity.

Plus of course the Wagon Lits Pullmans in blue (rare as rocking horse doo-doo).
