Its about time the horses in the equestrian events were awarded for their skills. Not just the riders

Yes - and the GB owners deserve some credit too. They could have sold the horses abroad and made a mint but their aim was to win a gold over mega-bucks

No gold for these

I don't see any controversy there. The Olympics is a massive commercial branding event, so having one particular sponsor's brands whizzing around in the stadium isn't exactly an issue.

This is an issue though: http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/commentanalysis/corporatewatch/thegreatolympictaxswindle.aspx

BMW are one of the companies that have caved in to public pressure and said they won't be using it as a chance to dodge paying any UK tax, but there's still a lot of sponsors using the dodge.

Boxing and Taekwondo golds now!

And our medal winners are great winners too - you don't hear Sir Chris Hoy, or Ben Ainslie (or Sir Steve Redgrave in the past) declaring themselves to be 'living legends'

Totally brilliant effort by all involved with team GB and the venues.

Let's hope that the funding continues and the up and coming talent get the breaks they deserve.

Good point - I heard that some of our near misses may not get the funding.

Well done team GB for finishing confirmed third place behind USA and China, many thanks to all the staff and volunteers that made the games possible

Australia: Better luck next games :P

It has been a phenomenal performance both in terms of the organisation and the performance of the team.

I was trying to think who was the UK standout performer of the Games and it is an impossible task. How can you separate Ainslie, Hoy, Kenny, Farah, Murray, Wiggins etc or Ennis, Pendleton, Dujardin, Trott etc for the girls. And there are probably more that I haven't mentionned that have exceeded expectations just to get past the heats of some events.

Lets hope our boxers can do the biz this afternoon!

I completely ran out of superlatives over a week ago regarding the performances of the entire Team GB who have played their hearts out.
The only disappointing thing for me is the organisers seem to have created an air of anti-climax for the Paralympics. I realise there is always an end of show extravaganza but it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth that guys & gals will be doing their utmost for medals next week, and their achievements (to me, at least) will be equal to or above what has occurred over the last 2 weeks

Not quite next week, the paralympics doesn't start until August 29th.

Thanks for correcting my error, Symon.
If anything that makes it worse in my eyes.
The euphoria surrounding GB performances should have been sustained IMHO

SymonC

I think there has to be some kind of the break as it takes a while for the athletes, equipment etc to leave the olympic village and return to their repective countries.

They can't all be expected to leave overnight and then for all the Paralympians to move in.

I for one will be watching though!

Gold in the boxing bringing TeamGB's gold tally to 29! :claphappy: :claphappy: :claphappy: :claphappy: :claphappy: :claphappy: :claphappy:

This is rather good as well!  :claphappy:
