An update, the retailer has replied saying that they will try and find me a replacement. I will be happy if they can find a good one.

The Hattons site has pictures of both sides - the lower band of lettering is not level on either, if that was your issue. Good luck with getting one that is right - charming vehicle.

I think you are right about it being difficult to find one with straight lettering, I have a feeling they are all like that, mine certainly had wonky lettering on both sides.

I have returned the first one, I will keep my fingers crossed for the next.

My second vehicle arrived today. It is a lot better than the first.

The retailer phoned me to say that they had quite a few with wonky lettering and would I like them to send the best version they could find. I was impressed by the fact they were willing to open lots of boxes to search for a good example so I agreed to try another one. I will keep this one, it may not be perfect but I don't think Hornby will be likely to do another run.

I'm only semi irritated now and worse things can happen at sea  :D

Sounds like you have got a helpful retailer, at least.
