Quote from: Steven B on August 03, 2023, 08:35:46 AMOne minor niggle - is it possible for a "Log out" button to be added to the top of the page along side "My Messages" and "Alerts"?

The dropdown to get to the Log Out option is quite quick for me , I'd say 1-2 seconds at most.  I never log out though, can't think of any reason why?

Quote from: Bealman on August 03, 2023, 07:57:49 AMI'm still getting that huge expanse of nothing between the banner and the forum itself on my laptop (phone ok).

Sounds trivial, but it is becoming very annoying as it happens everytime I look at a post.

Anyone got a solution?  :hmmm:

I tried updating my Seamonkey browser but it's made no difference.

It wouldn't be so bad if the excess space was consistent but it's not - sometimes the blank space is practically nothing, other times it's as much as ten hits of the [Page Down] key.

Have you tried a different browser, Firefox, Chrome?

Is it worth trying another one anyway, just to see if you get the same problem.

Just a thought.

I must admit I gave up on Firefox many years ago, didn't realise it's still going :)   Used to be my preference at work, but we/I moved to Chrome which I also use at home except for my latest Win11 laptop on which I'm trialling Edge.  Edge is touted as now having the same engine as Chrome under the covers, so far I'd say 99% identical functionality - just a couple of niggles with the Hornby forum which I don't get on Chrome.  This forum seems fine with Edge.

When I had similar a couple of years ago, it was the add-blocker browser add-in I was running and not a forum issue. Instead of removing the ad completely, it was showing white space of the dimensions set for the ad...If you have an add-blocker running, as a first step, temporarily white-list NGF so that the ads show - if they fill the space that's your culprit...

Good point, although I have add blocking software running in both Edge and Firefox and not getting this blank area.

Certainly worth trying turning it off though along with any other browser add-ins.

I usually access the forum from a shared PC.

Separate logins on the PC? That should keep the browser stored data separate. That's how we do it with all the family PCs here, though mostly we stick to "our" PCs anyone can in theory use any device (as the admin I know all the passwords of course :) )

Very very minor issue, but it would be nice to have members' locations displayed again. Sad, I know, but I do like to see where people are in the world...

Cheers,

Bealman, can you update your Firefox to the current version or is your OS no longer supported? I have the same empty space on my old Firefox on an older iMac, but on my newer Apple with the current Firefox the site displays correctly.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm on phone at moment (my usual way of checking forum when I'm out), so I don't know if I have an ad blocker running or not - I'll check.

My OS is most definitely obsolete - the laptop runs Vista!!

Tried turning my adblocker off but it made no difference.

As the empty space varies it has nothing to do with the set space for ads. The size seems to depend on the length (or height) of the posts: If there are posts containing photos, the empty space increases. When there are just posts with little text, the space above is less. The posts always start about where the scrollbar is in the middle of the height.

When editing a post, to add a tag for example, typing '@ + 3 letters' does not bring the drop down menu to choose from so you have to type the whole tag and so I'm unsure whether that tag then works :uneasy:  @Bealman

Edit:- I've amended the post with George's tag so if he spots it could he let me know and then we know it does work
