Great looking calculations Malcolm! Minor correction would be that 2 pi should be 6.28 rather than 6.88. I don't think it will be a mission critical change  :D

Thanks for checking my numbers, that was an interesting exersize, not done owt like that for decades ! Sorry about the pi, and I had not touched a drop of liquor, onnest guv :) Can I plead dyslexicles or does tht only work with letters ?
I was so bothered by checking all those pesky powers of ten that pi escaped my attention.

Anyway : I did find this pic., tweeted by EM, of the new path which y'all might like :

and a while back when it was supposed to go to Mars he tweeted that it would take about 6months, but nothing so far about the new duration.

No problems Malcolm, it just leapt out of the calcs at me! It's only 10% or so, so not really significant, it's not as if it's rocket science.. Oh, but hang on it is... :uneasy:

If anyone hasn't picked up the  Ark B reference ( perhaps because they are on board it...)

In this case, I think it is all pi in the sky.

All change !
NASA - JPL have got proper tracking on the job and have found talk of asteroid belt is wildly exaggerated.
Estimated aphelion now down to about 1.7AU, (from 2.6) so just a little overshoot a bit beyond Mars.

The good news is that I found a post by someone else who worked the numbers and got a period of 2.4y so given my faux pas with pi, and that we were both working with the old data, that canna'be bad :)

Now the furore is dying down, it's time to reflect on just what a tiny dot on the Universal landscape the Tesla Roadster now is.
I came across this on the Newsdesk site yesterday .....

..... and my earlier post here was incorrect:

Quote..... by my rough estimation ..... when this car returns to trouble Earth's many satellites in late September 2020 .....

This Popular Science article gives some insight into what may happen to the Tesla, including a comment by an astrophysicist about its trajectory that corrects my misconception.
