hi,

were inspection pits ever placed outside in the diesel era?

i'm building a 1980s era layout...

i have a peco inspection pit, if i put it inside the depot you can't see it, so it's pointless... so i was thinking it could go outside somewhere... in front of the depot, out the back, or in the depot headshunt or fueling area...

cheers,

tim

There are pits outside at gloucester's horton road depot. As can be seen if you search flickr for horton road.
They weren't built outside though, they were in a large steam shed till it was demolished in the 60's.

hi tim

if you do a google images search of old oak common it shows an inspection pit outside in 1975 and it looks to be still there
