Title: 400 'Bad Request' Error
Post by: dannyboy on February 25, 2023, 08:58:45 PM
I am a member of another forum and for the last two or three days, I have been getting the following response when trying to connect to the site -

Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Additionally, a 400 Bad Request error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

That was whilst using 'Google' on a Win 11 computer. I searched for the error and have cleared the cache and done other recommended things, numerous times, but am still getting the error. When it first happened, I tried with 'Opera' and it worked - until today. I am now getting the same error on 'Opera'.  :*(. I have no problem accessing any other sites, so I am guessing it may well be a problem with the site I am trying to access, (www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums (http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums)).

As I can not now access the site, I am unable to post my problem there. Has any of you more computer savvy people any ideas or suggestions please?

Addit: Just after posting this, I had a thought, (it happens occasionally). I used my mobile phone to access the site - no problem!  ???

Addit2: Now I am really getting confused, (that happens occasionally too  :)). I have just tried logging into the site using 'Edge' - no problem!  :hmmm:

I just clicked that link on my mobile and got there straight away.

I use the RAV 4 group on the site with no problems, which doesn't help you. Try doing a restart on your PC. Not a switch off/on, but select restart from the shut down options. It will reload the registry. Switching off then on manually does not do that.

Sell the Toyota and it will no longer be a problem to you. Hope that helps

Ha de ha! In over 50 years of driving, even though cars have improved tremendously in that time, I can honestly say that the Toyota Hybrid is probably the nicest car I have ever owned - and I am including a BMW 3 and 5 in that statement.

I tried the restart but it made no difference. Still getting a 'bad request' error on Chrome and Opera, but can access the site on Edge.  ???. I might switch to Edge to see how things go. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I use Opera. I copied the link on to a new tab and the site opened straight away, so it doesn't appear to be Opera per se. This information was provided by Papyrus and as usual it is of absolutely no use whatsoever.

Good luck!

Chris

Thanks for that Chris, (I think  :)). I have just tried again using Opera - no go but it is fine with Edge so not a big problem in the wider scheme of things.

My RAV4 ( my Tonka toy ) was the best little car I've ever owned - I regret the day bitterly that I sold it! 4 WD is very useful in London!!

Fortunately the real RAV4 is AWD, not 4WD.

But ISTR that it was switchable for 2 or AWD

Not mine. It's front wheel drive unless it loses traction, then it drops into 4 wheel drive. No manual switching.

Just an update in case anybody is interested.
A member on another forum suggested that I uninstall the offending browsers and then reinstall them. I have done that this evening with 'Opera' and can now access the other forum, (toyotaownersclub). I have logged into, and out of, that forum three times in the last half hour without problem, so that seems to be the remedy. I will do the same with Google tomorrow. Quite happy as I had to open 'Edge' when I wanted to access the Toyota forum. Now things are back to normal.  :)

I too am a member on the toyota owners club forum, log in daily on firefox with no issues, maybe your link was corrupted.

@Malc (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=497)
It is more likely to be the browser that was corrupted Malc. Using the exact same link, I could get into the forum with 'Edge', but nothing else. I will uninstall and then reinstall 'Google' a bit later and see what happens. On the odd occasion, strange things happen with our television. For instance, it will start broadcasting the audio description, without any input from Louisa or myself, or it will decide to switch to 'Netflix', even though I don't subscribe to that. We usually put it down to our ghost 'Ethel' - maybe she dislikes electrical displays.  :hmmm:

Glad it's sorted David. Computers are great until they go wrong.
