re-assembling a couple of wargames vehicles after repainting and marking, I had to glue the cab glazing back in with superglue.
previously not a problem, but this time, in spite of leaving the body upside down, and open, for over half an hour, after which cab detail and chassis refitted, I found later that several sections of the cab glazing had become 'fogged' on the inside, I can only assume from glue fumes.
any suggestions on how to remove this, or is it just a could damp morning, and the crew are waiting for the heaters to demist the windows ?
The couple of times I'd corrected glue-fogged glazing I've basically polished it with finest grade wet-n-dry and finally with a cotton cloth. Not easy once the glazing is in place though.
I normally use one of the clear drying "glazing glues" like Microscale Krystal-Klear to set glazing pieces.
Basically you have micro dots of acetate bonded to the glazing. Removing them forcibly will rip the surface at a molecular level. You can polish it off with a rubber polishing wheel and a Dremel with paste or toothpaste (the white chalky type).
Acetone (nail polish remover) will remove it but I am not sure how it will affect the clear plastic. Do you have any you can test?
Failing that, gloss varnish will fix it pretty well (the thinner, the better).
Next time use Glue'n glaze - no fogging!
many thanks for all the suggestions, I'll try them tomorrow and advise results.
dear all,
apologies for not reporting back earlier, but other things have demanded my attention.
wasn't able to find any superglue remover, but got nail varnish remover and raided the bathroom for toothpaste.
gritted my teeth, and set to work.
dis-assembled the vehicle, and started off with the nail polish remover, applied by cotton bud, then rubbed with same.
while not totally successful produced a fair improvement, so carried on with toothpaste, again applied with a cotton bud, scrubbed with same, then 'polished' off with wet towel roll.
the result was, while not crystal clear, was a great improvement, think windows awaiting some erk on jankers to clean them :)
so many thanks for the suggestions, and hopefully my results may help someone else in the same situation.
