Unfortunately Lifetime Updates last only as long as the manufactures deem the life of the equipment is.. not whether the equipment is still working..

For reasons I won't go into (but it may become clear to some in the know) I am having to sell my Mother's car. However, I had informed the Government website - Tell Us Once. Now this is a helpful site as they inform all government departments e.g. DWP, DVLA etc. So far so good .........BUT.....
All the places I've tried to sell the car require me to drive it to them for valuation but the 'Tell Us Once' site has been too good. Not only have they removed Mother as the registered keeper of the vehicle but they have also refunded a balance of the road tax (exactly as they should)
It now looks as if I'll have to register myself as the new keeper, tax the car again so I can hawk it around for a deal and collect a tax refund if/when the car sells.
I tried to phone the DVLA today to see if there is an alternative but gave up after being on hold for 18.17 minutes and being told they have a high volume of calls ::)

In my experience you will get a better price selling privately if that's an option with the added bonus that the potential buyers will come to you. Also Mick keep an eye on what the Tell Us Once team do. 5 years ago (they were called the one-stop shop when I dealt with them and I don't mean the small Tesco stores as they were) the DWP were informed but made payments to my mother which they shouldn't have done. The DWP then chased me for the money to be paid back at a later date. I ignored them and they went away in the end.

Problem is private buyers will want a road test and the car's not taxed. I can't afford all the inevitable time wasters either

Mick,
just a thought, but if you are taking it to a dealer that does MOTs, you should IIRC be able to drive it to a prebooked MOT without it being taxed.
otherwise, perhaps the dealer would collect it on trade plates ?

I had thought of that, Alan, but the fuzz know whether a car has an MOT or not so, if I was stopped, I wouldn't have much of a defence. At present, dealers won't do home visits to check/value a car, I've found so far.

Here in Oz you can legally drive your car unregistered to get it registered (equivalent to your MOT).

However, you're encouraged to do it all online these days.

 ???
The car is MOT'd until Jan next year.
I can't tax it on line as, although I have the registration document (V5C), it is in my Mother's name and the DVLA have removed her as the owner

TBH - I wish I'd left using 'Tell Us Once' until after the car had been sold, knowing what I know now

So, who is the owner?
Does this also mean it no longer has a valid insurance?

Ask me one on knitting, Mike :dunce:

If someone at the DVLA would just pick up the phone I might be able to learn the first bit.

Inflation??

I have been reading a couple of news items today about inflation. I know, as I normally do the grocery shopping, that it is happening, but we went to Enniskillen last Saturday for our monthly 'outing' and did our shopping at Asda. We noticed an increase in the cost of some items, but Louisa is partial to 'Lurpak' butter, so we always get a tub. Normally it is 3.75p, with the occasional reduction in price, (but not often). How much was it this time? 5.00p.  :o. I know things are not good with the supply of some ingredients, but a 33.33% rise? It seems to me that somebody is extracting the urine. I don't know who is to blame, Asda or Arla Foods, (the makers of Lurpak), but I can not see how such an increase can be justified. Has anybody else noticed any ridiculous price rises?  ???

That's a bummer as Lurpak is my dairy spread of choice.
I'll check it at Tesco tomorrow morning. :uneasy:

I have just being doing a bit of 'research' on line. Aldi do an almost identical butter called 'Nordpak'. One review I have just read says that the two are almost indist indish indeshin identical. I have permission from Louisa to buy a tub from Aldi when I do the shopping on Friday for her to test, so I will let you know Mick.

From recent experience, the "Nordpak Spreadable" is excellent, and on a par with the "brand that shall not be named"    The regular version is also spreadable - with mechanical assistance!

@dannyboy I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but the standard (not offer) price at Tesco today was 3.59 for 500g tub. Soz.
