A few purchases from the last few weeks. Whoops! Farish Jinty - £35 from the Bachmann stand at TINGS. Std 4 2-6-0, £45 from Fleabay (PCB has been removed so needs a chip hardwiring in place). Three Gresley coaches, three Mk 1s, a Stanier coach, and a few wagons. Most of the stock will run on the new club layout (must get round to starting a thread on that!), but the Jinty was too much of a bargain to pass up!

Oh - and the Ultima Models kit at the bottom is Thompson brake. It doesn't look too difficult to build, which is a good thing as I may need a rake of a dozen of these!

i would put some pics up, but seeing as 2 of them have already gone for repair/ dcc fitting its not possible!

but what i got was: -

Evening star-weathered-already gone for repair as it seems to have the old pony truck issue of derailing, and it derailed on the first lap and jammed up the center drive gears solid!

45xx great western weathered-got this for £30 from the dapol stand, labeled as noisy, on further investigation at the club, it seemed that part of the slide bar was bent, so when this was repaired, it ran smooth and quiet! bargain!

45xx br black-labeled as wobbly at the dapol stand, and got this for £15 :D only because i asked joel that if i bought the £30 for the price they wanted could i have this for £15 and he quickly said yes! :D...again slightly bent slide bar, repaired, perfect :D

also picked up the royal train vinyls from adam, just need the coaches!

now i have a few galas to have fun with, then its next stop warley! where hopefully i will be getting a nice new duchess! hopefully fingers crossed lol

I just love the clickety-clack of those tankers going past the camera. Well done on achieving a very realistic version of that on what looks like a great layout.

My two latest additions;

They were both bought from a certain Taiwanese seller on eBay and both arrived within a week of being posted.

The 37 is the new Farish one but in an un-weathered condition and I've had it a couple of months - I got fed up of waiting for the weathered one to arrive, and to be honest I prefer my stock in pristine condition.

The only complaint I've got with them is that they were both swimming in oil, although I've had to make a small repair to one of the pick-ups on the Class 47 (poorly soldered and fell apart whilst cleaning off the oil).

This one arrived yesterday, new unused & got it at a reasonable price  :)

I already have one in this livery so will re-number this one. I was dissapointed at first as one of the orange jumper cable connectors on the nose was missing, but thought I could have a go at making a new one. Luckily when taking off the bogies to clean out the grease & oil it ready for running in I found it lodged amongst the gears & grease so it was lucky I found it before trying to run it  So glued it back on, & all is good  8)

cheers, Stu.

very nice 56 and glad to hear it is multiple working capable again now!

there is a great photo of some 56s on page 1 of railways illustrated this month taken in Leicester depot looking back towards the station (must have been taken by a member of staff, or a trespasser....)

Have heard of people buying stuff this way. But doesn't the Royal Mail add the import taxes and whatnot when they deliver it? Eliminating any savings?

I think its what they call 'a post code lottery'. Some people get clobbered - some don't.

I've had a lot from Japan and China and touch wood, haven't been charged extra yet :-X

Both of them were labelled as "toy train" on the description, with a low value. But even if I had been unlucky, the cost would still have been lower than buying at retail (and I got the Class 37 un-weathered).

Just a quick (off topic) question.
I noticed when I was cleaning up the oil and repairing the pick-up on the Class 47 that the contacts on the top of the bogies weren't at the same height.

Will this cause any problems, and if so, would the best course of action be to file the higher of the contacts down?

mickeyflinn

That's what I would have thought, but it doesn't appear to be - the brass strip that it makes contact with has some spring in it and appears to be accommodating the difference. I was more thinking about it wearing out the contact strip.

My purchases at TINGS this past Sunday:

From the Dapol stand (the end I could get to initially)

Then visited the Bachmann stand

Cheltenham Model Centre:

The 'Medway Queen' Preservation Society stand yielded an addition to the shelf groaning under the weight of reference materials
[smg id=16033]

Return visit to the Dapol stand yielded the last-but-one Collectors Club Milk Train set

Hi mickey
Any chance of a name for this Taiwanese seller?
