My sister and her husband live in an 18th century farmhouse on a lane called Syd Brook Lane - although it wasn't a lane on Boxing Day

 Fortunately we have never experienced anything as bad as that (and hope we never do)

Pretty damp around here in Worcester, too.

Main roads have huge, deep ponds across their whole width and idiots are driving into them making huge waves.

Chetcombe

Have just returned from rescuing Mrs Chetcombe, who has suffered 2 flat tires courtesy of a local pothole. That makes our 4th and 5th puncture on this particular road over the last 4 or 5 years - it connects where we live to civilization and must be the worst road in America  :headbutt:

With two punctures, a tow truck was required and I know the local dealer will not have the tires in stock, so we will probably be without her car until at least Tuesday (if we are lucky...). The only saving grace is that I bought the wheel and tire protection package when I got the car so the tow and the new tires will not cost me anything.

:worried: Ive felt sorry over the Xmas holiday for all those 'Upt Norf' whose season has been ruined by heavy rain and floods.
We've watched to road past us flood and become impassable quite a few times in the past 41 years but its never risen above the start of our garden. Several in the village have been flooded (small time) over the years but never seriously like those to our northern counties.
Today I' sat here watching the idiots on the road roar past sending spray well above vehicles and causing chaos for those walking on the now sunken pavements.
>:D I hope the cars get waterlogged and breakdown.
After about 2 hours of rising water the guy opposite attacked the drain covers on the opposite side of the road to us and all the flooding vanished in about 30 minutes for which we are immensely thankful

Hope some poor sod elsewhere hasn't received a tsunami as a result, Jon :uneasy:

The water feeds into a stream which in about 5 miles north of us feeds a floodplain that is always in trouble but eventually everything from around here feeds into the Thames at Reading

Trainfish

So now you've flooded London? Good on you  :-[

Sorry to those on here who live in London, you could always use your barrier if you turn it round the other way though

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

Clearly you've never heard of "Bazalgette's Bath Plug", a large slightly tapered cast-iron disc located in the bed of the Thames just east of Westminster Bridge, which, when "pulled", can divert excess flow into a network of tunnels clad in cast iron built into the layer of London clay upon which the nation's capital rests.

Just hope those tunnels don't lead back to Basingstoke :worried:

Having taken the cat to the cattery yesterday, and having psyched myself up for a triple by pass operation tomorrow, I've just had a call to say the master cutter is ill and my op won't occur until 19th Jan. Now to go and collect the cat again. Poor little bugger will wonder what the hell he's done to deserve this.
Only those who have been in the same boat will know how I feel about it all.
Still - at least the house has been dusted, vacuumed etc to within an inch of its life.

Nothing for it Nobby you'll just have to run trains  :hmmm: at least you won't be in hospital when all the junior doctors go on strike.

Bummer re the cancellation - still, the 19th is close enough, it could have been 3 months away !  Good luck on it
