Instead of running off to the media FIRST, get Plan B in place, the Army are always 'ready fo step in' so get our wonderful boys in the wagons getting the stuff out there and THEN tell us how you've saved us from Panic Buying and a catastrophic drought of fuel.

You're assuming that the army has enough "fule" to do this.

Kindly place these in the correct order.

Locally, petrol station large illuminated sign showing £1.389 litre, diesel a bit more so not as bad as some. Ah that's why it's 'cheaper'- the place is closed.

Stay safe everyone.

The army are only supplying the drivers. According to all sources there is NO FUEL SHORTAGE just no drivers to get it to the forecourts

Just thought I should let you know that there is a rumour that Plaster Of Paris is in very short supply ................. it is only a rumour though - honest.  >:D

I am angry at this fuel large chicken up.

We got the keys to our new house 13th Sept.

Best date we could get stuff out of storage and delivered was 29th. Not ideal but has meant time to redecorate, tackle overgrown garden etc.

Told today removal firm can't get any diesel.

No stuff until 7th.

Sorry but why get the military out there? Haven't they got enough on their plate (currently over 20 overseas unit+ operations ongoing) plus training for the militaries actual job which doesn't come fast or easy hence the old phrase "train hard, fight easy"

When I left the army 2 years ago not only did we have operations ongoing but we had to train for:
fire strikes / tanker strikes / ambulance strikes / UK terrorism response / Large scale disaster response (Civil contingency reaction force) / flooding
All of this taking up months of time all while trying to fit in training for actual operations (my unit was sending 2 companies to Estonia and 2 companies to Afghanistan) previously you got to spend a year doing pre deployment training but with all the extra duties thrown on to the military the pre deployment training for my unit was down to about 4 months for each of the deployments!

The reality is that as  :poop: as the situation is we have to stop calling out the military every time something makes life difficult, frankly if the military are called in then it should be for essential services only, not for Sharon to fill up her 2 ton tractor for the 1 mile school run!
Mechanical issues can be solved with a hammer and electrical problems can be solved with a screw driver. Beyond that it's verbal abuse which makes trains work!!

Trust me I know how hard they work and how overstretched they are but

As I am neither

The Prime Minister
The Defence Secretary
Or the government's PR department

That's the question for them to answer. Their all over the media telling us that's what they were preparing to do.

The problem shouldnt of arisen in the first place.

Fardap

Although the government can take some blame the initial problem was caused by BP releasing a press statement that they had to shut a handful of sites due to delivery issues...

The actual reason they put out the press release was they were lobbying the govt to relax visa rules for HGV drivers from the EU - so they created a crisis to get an end to their lobbying.

Ironically as much as everyone wants to blame Brexit there is an EU wide (if not WW) shortage of HGV drivers it is not just a UK issue, also fuel deliveries are not done by HGV drivers they also need an ADR licence for the specialist nature of transporting fuel and explosives.

The real issue is regardless of what anyone has said or what press releases were made the problem with stations running out is wholly to blame on the media and moronic people who want a fully fuelled car sitting on their drive - if everyone had carried on as normal there would be no issue!

Agreed, but as soon as some start panic buying, everyone else has to or they'll find none left when they actually do need it.

I usually run until almost empty and then fill the tank. On Friday I filled early, as panic buying had started and I knew I had to pick my son up from university that night (home for my and his brother's birthdays and a medical appointment, so could not be changed) and then return him on Sunday night, while still having enough left to get to and from work and to take my disabled wife to and from hospital appointments towards the end of this week. I could have got by until Tuesday or today maybe, but would not have been able to fill up now, if I hadn't on Friday and so would have been left stranded.

- if everyone had carried on as normal .......

I think that is just what a great number of folks are doing.

Mention the word 'shortage' or 'limited' or 'crisis' or even just 'problem' relating to anything these days and the practically inevitable result will be what we are seeing here now. It's become the norm to panic, or as some would have it, 'get a bit in', whether it's loo rolls or fuel or whatever is perceived to be short on supply, 'just in case'.
Sadly in this highly mobile society, having fuel has become essential for many, many individuals and business, so between the essential users and those who just take the knee-jerk approach without properly assessing need, what we are seeing today is inevitable. Even, you might say, normal.

There is another 'cause' to this.

I have an insider in the industry. Oh well, y'know, he drives lorries.

BP and Shell use a company called Hoyer for deliveries. Someone in their wisdom,  I'm guessing an accountant, thought it'd be a good idea to lay off the drivers and re-employ them on a worse contract. So of course, a huge amount of them walked away into other companies looking for tanker drivers.

Low and behold, Shell and BP are short of drivers.

Strangely the Road Haulage Association aren't shouting about that brainwave. Maybe it's because the RHA is run by the likes of Shell and BP.

Fact - media showing film of a garage forecourt operating normally is not news.
Fact - media showing film of long queues outside garages, 'NO FUEL' signs and motorists having at each other is considered news.
I rest my case, M'Lud.

Gave me a chuckle on the evening news here, though  ;D

There was two items that I spotted. One was a couple of guys pouring fuel into a black bin bag lining a drum. Second was a police report of a 3 hour queue at a closed garage. They were abused when they started directing traffic away and one guy said he must have fuel as he had been driving for 3 hours trying to get petrol. The copper asked him how much fuel had he used up in that 3 hours.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.
