I guess Bullied was looking to expand on the success of his pacifics by experimenting with express freight operation :D

It's a 2-8-2? Weren't they normally 4-6-2?
Edit: ah a Mikado is a 2-8-2, i was impressed with myself for knowing that was an unrebuilt Merchant Navy!

Or he was looking for an opportunity to provide Southern motive power for the Edinburgh to Aberdeen passenger trains after Mr Thomson did 'things' to the wonderful 'P2' 2-8-2 class. 'OVSB' was much involved with the 'P2' class, including, if I recall correctly, taking
'male chicken' (changed by forum) of the North (will the Forum make me look very silly again?!) to France for testing. I understand he spoke excellent French which would have been helpful.

Regardless of the wheel arrangement I just thought "BR Blue - must have some sort of Yellow Panel, be they small or full". :)
The camera doesn't lie, for that you need Photoshop!

I suspect the original wasn't pin sharp, which would have made hiding the joins in the alteration easier.
Yes the loco was scrapped in 1965 according to Wikipedia, so it's a rather old image!
Thanks for that . Ok wind the clocks forward rail advent has posted a video class 66 intermodeals leaving preston. You can just hear a failed loco ticking

And Bibby Line was rebuilt in April '56, so the original photo was from at least 63 years ago.
She was only the second Merchant Navy to be rebuilt (following British India Line) so maybe the photo is genuine and the guys at Eastleigh misread the drawings ;D
