hi everyone

sorry I know this has been discussed before and i did just search previous threads but didn't really find an answer! also looked through ebay at various lights.

could someone please link me to working street lights which don't look too over size and look at least remotely british and suitable for the 80s and 90s era?  most lights were yellow/orange colour back then as I recall.

the ones I've seen online have the lamp at the wrong angle or are very over sized or too modern looking...

I am aware that cr signals make some but these are quite expensive so hoping to find an alternative!

I'm not ultra fussy but if i go down the lighting road on my new layout i want it to be worth the effort!

if no realistic street lights do exist then maybe this is a good opportunity for a budding entrepreneur or existing company!

cheers

There are so many styles of cheap LED light out there on ebay etc., and so many different styles of the real thing, that it can be difficult to choose.    A few years ago I bought some intended for Z gauge, they seem better sized than some of the others marketed for N.

I used some on Lofthole from a stall at an exhibition called "Kytes Lights".  I have no idea if they are still going.  They were extremely inexpensive and have worked faultlessly.

You can see that they are appropriately scaled.  They give out a whitish light, but I have found that if you use a yellow LED hidden somewhere to flood the area with yellow light you get the appropriate effect.  The light from an individual post is actually quite difficult to see.

Hi Tim,

I get quite a lot of stuff from these guys, Railroom Electronics. They are super efficient and helpful to deal with, and they are based in Dorset, and we like to look after our own down here  :D :D :D

They are also good for tools.

Kytes Lights as Jon suggested are also very good, and still very much in existence ...In fact I sent them an order for some really tiny LED's yesterday

If when you get them they are not quite the right colour for you, a little dab of paint on the bulb can work wonders.

All best wishes
Kevin

thanks everyone!

I have bought some cheap z gauge ones to see what they are like

I think i need to see a wide selection at an exhibition really to get a better idea. I've been on the other sites as well so can buy from them too if the z ones don't work out.

someone should do a review for the n gauge journal!! get cr signals and a variety of chinese ones to compare!

many thanks

Tim
