One of the best bands I've seen live are The Waterboys.
A real mish mash of Irish/British/Folk/Rock/Blues with a line up that has been fluid, to say the least, for nearly 40 years.
The Waterboys have spent most of that 40 years hovering just under the radar of greatness but those who are familiar with their music hold them in high esteem.
This is Fisherman's Blues which, along with The Whole of The Moon is one of their most loved songs :

Oooh....I can join in.

The Waterboys song ' Bang on the Ear'. I play it a lot. Brings back lots of memories for obvious and not so obvious reasons

That's a fine track Chris @weave.
Is that your type of music or is it just the sentiment in the lyrics?

Well, from the Waterboys to a guitarist that similarly "hovered just under the radar of greatness" for many a year. Here with the title track from his second and best album (IMO) is Robin Trower (78) ...

Thanks Tim. A truly great guitarist.
This is my favourite from him :

I think this track really shows why he is likened to Hendrix.

Awesome Martin, I hope Mick @Newportnobby is watching! This track was played on Planet Rock this afternoon which neatly reminded me...

He is indeed, Tim :) Robin Trower is an awesome guitarist and I love 'Bridge of Sighs' although prefer this slightly longer version.....

Another underrated geetar man is Stevie Ray Vaughan IMHO. This is what I like to call dirty blues

Hi Martin,

I have the Irish blood in me and I like everything from proper folk eg. Christy Moore (seen probably 20 times) via folk rock/pop eg. The Saw Doctors (seen probably 30 times) up to folk rock/punk eg. The Pogues and Shane McGowan [RIP] and The Popes (seen countless times).

I never saw The Waterboys live but friends who did said that they were fantastic. Not totally my thing but I do like some of it.

I do like a bit of folk/punk though and bands like The Rumjacks (Irish/Scottish from Australia) and Flogging Molly (Irish from the USA) are great for a drunken dance around the kitchen  :D

Cheers, weave  :beers:

Good stuff @weave.
I've seen the Saw Doctors twice but a long time ago (probably late 90s).

Agreed Mick, it (Bridge of Sighs) becomes quite hypnotic - fabulous version, thank you for posting. SRV is of course sadly missed and I bought my current pair of speakers on hearing his version of "Voodoo Chile (slight return)" from Couldn't Stand the Weather as part of the demo. I like this track from the same album but in this case live...

I'm not one for listening to music from the past on a regular basis, preferring to find new artists to investigate.
However, I do occasionally have a listen to bands from my teenage years. Hence this afternoon I've had an hour or so with King Crimson one of the 1960/70s bands that I don't think we've discussed on here before.
To my mind KC were one of the more innovative groups from the prog rock era although some of their work could descend into the realms of rather noisy, un structured meandering.
The original lineup which included Bob Fripp, Ian McDonald, Michael Giles and Greg Lake produced, I think, their best work.
I saw them three times, if I remember correctly, probably a frightening 52 years ago but it seems like only yesterday.
Here's In the Court of the Crimson King one of the best tracks from their album of the same name.

With the exception of the odd Floyd release, to me music died from the 80s onwards so 95+% of music is old stuff.
The album 'Court of the Crimson King' is pretty damned good and my youth was spent playing 'Epitaph', 'Moonchild', 21st Century Schizoid Man' and the above track from Martin over and over (probably drove my parents mad)
