Martin, @port perran , I should have said the late John Martyn OBE (1948 - 2009).

Cheers,

Tim

With more than a hint of the late Melanie Safka in the vocals.....

Here is one of my favourite tracks from a great album by Lemon Jelly.
Many will have heard of them but many people won't so here's a chance to listen to something maybe a little different.
How do you classify Lemon Jelly?  Well, it's difficult. Eccentric might describe them. Perhaps electronic jazzy pop with brass might also work.
Have a listen for yourself though but please don't dismiss it after 45 seconds. If you do you'll miss out on a treat.

And if you happen to like what you hear then try Space Walk as well :

Inspired by @Trainfish 's can of Double Hazy Jane, I was going to write a bit about the late Nick Drake; however,  I found this on YouTube which does a much better job than I possibly could...

I first heard Nick's music on the Island sampler "Nice Enough to Eat" with his track "Time has Told Me" and then again on "Bumpers" with "Hazey Jane 1". It was not until more recently that I have collected his work. John Martyn's "Solid Air" was written for his friend Nick. Here it is...

If you listen to "Poor Boy" on Bryter Layter you can hear Doris Troy warming up for her once in a life time vocal performance on Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky".

Ah yes, the Nice Enough to Eat sampler. I knew I'd heard him recently. It's sitting on the turntable at the moment!
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

That sampler album certainly shaped my early musical tastes George! There is a track on it by a band called Heavy Jelly, a pseudonym for Skip Bifferty which was only released as a single. Various band members went onto play with the likes of Ginger Baker, Alvin Lee and Van Morrison as well as Ian Dury and the Blockheads and The Clash.

I've been listening to one of the influential greats this afternoon.
The late JJ Cale was criticised for sticking with his "tried and tested" style to the end but his influence was realised by other master musicians such as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, Tom Petty and Derek Trucks plus lots of others.
Here is one of my favourite JJ tracks, Magnolia :

Very nice Tim.
I've never really listened to Claire Hammill before and reading up on her, I had no idea that she joined Wishbone Ash for a while.

On first listening I rather like First Night in New York from the album you suggested :

I shall listen to more.
