Title: We don't believe in climate change!
Post by: RailGooner on April 24, 2019, 02:08:00 PM
Here at the prestigious University of Oxford, we don't believe in climate change, environmental issues, and such hippy dippy tosh! So we can't rely on the rain alone to keep the cricket field watered. Oh no, we definitely need the sprinklers on too!

Please don't overlook the fact that intelligence and common sense are NOT the same thing.

Even here in the land of climate change denial, we have domestic sprinkler systems that have built in rain detectors and automatically switch off if it has rained recently.

If its untreated water then its just lazy. If it's tap water then it ought to be fixed.

As long as the climate stays relatively stable for the next 10 years I don't really care after that.

Passed a Lincolnshire field yesterday where an elaborate remote control water spraying system was in full force action. It was raining at the time.

But then five miles further on I had to alter my car's internal air system to exclude the fine soil dust being blown into the air from recently ploughed fields. It was like driving into an orange-brown morning mist.

I am also mindful that my lawn weeds, which usually reside in boggy ground this time of year and are thus easy to lift out, are firmly locked into near-solid clayey soil.

It's a complex picture.

Ah, well, then the University of Oxford is greener than I thought, since they've just demolished all the nursery greenhouses in the park! :smiley-laughing:

Without prejudice  :D

The thing that gets me about Climate change protesters with bright yellow dyed hair is they have no concept of the "harmful to the planet" chemistry, probably chrome, that is involved in making the yellow hair dye they use, or the world toxic effects of the hydrogen peroxide use of a certain blonded theatrical Dame who "jetted" in for the weekend.

Possibly this should be in the Angry thread.

Not to mention the chemicals used in the superglue and expanding foam they used, or the pink paint on the fibreglass boat, or the chemicals that had to be used to free them, or how they all got into London (I somehow doubt they all walked or cycled), or the water they wasted washing their chalking off the road, that came out of the single use bottles I saw, or the energy used to make the chains they used which were then destroyed, or the oil used to make the drainpipes they used, or the plastic used in the tents they pitched, or the chemicals used in the portable  loos they needed...

...it's best not to get me started on these things....

...and as for the actress who used how much aviation fuel to speak, what the  :censored: is wrong with using Skype or voip like a lot of businesses use that lost money because of them. If I'd been in charge I wouldn't buy bothered arresting the ones on the stock exchange, I'd have just freed the one at either end, transported them out of the capital and let them sort themselves out.

Reportedly, one of the police on duty wanted to just leave them indefinitely, but not let their friends access onto the private property they were on, to set them free.  >:D

I thought the forum was supposed to be non political. Climate change denial is political as is denigrating climate change protestors, so time to shut this down. Unless of course we also want to discuss on the forum the cheating, gerrymandering and ignorance of the general public that led to the EU referendum result...

I'm not denying climate change in any way shape or form. I am saying that a lot of the planet's resources were wasted by a lot of people that actually increased pollution in the capital from all the slowed traffic, extra mileage and transporting officers and protesters around for a week.

The increased resource use caused by protesting, colouring hair, gluing floats together, etc. pales into insignificance compared to daily toll on the environment of the behaviour of the populace, me and you included. Sorry, but it's just a cheap and easy shot to criticise people who are truly concerned by the welfare of the planet. Let's just stick to trains.

If the demonstrators want to affect real change, they should pitch camp here!
