Generally not being someone who buys weathered stock (I bought the new Farish green 37 from the Taiwanese eBay seller because it was unweathered), I've given in and bought the weathered green Class 22 and milk tankers monthly special available from Dapol.
I was just wondering what other members had bought when they'd finally given in, and had to buy?
Exactly the same as you. Couldn't resist at £120. No more pocket money till next Xmas!
The Dapol monthlies are certainly causing me some succumbage... Though the class 22 fails to light my personal fire of desire so have been able to resist that quite easily.
I also haunt various 1st 2nd hand retailers here in Tokyo and am unable to resist providing various items of British and European stock which surface from time to time with a good home. This is besides the primary "hit list" of Japanese items I would very much like to have, and the secondary list of items which I'd like to have at the right (discounted) price.
With my main layout being based in Oxfordshire there was no way I could justify a Blue Pullman (Rule 1 doesn't exist for me ) but when it came out I just had to have one.
Everything else I have can be justified :)
Still holding out on a BP tho' I expect my resolve to crumble with some christmas donations to the train fund.
C. :)
Got blue Pullman. Haven't got my layout sorted yet so watch it going round my test loop endlessly with a glass of wine in one hand. Beats Coronation Street any day.
Well, I don't have a layout, or a test track...... but I've got a blue Pullman!
Phil
Despite mainly being interedted in 1960s Western region stuff working around Warwickshire I couldn't resist a Dapol B1 in LNER green. Then I had to get some teak coaches to go with it...
I also had to have the Graham Farish 4CEP as I wanted a Southern Region EMU for years.
I wish I hadn't looked at this thread - it's just cost me £120, couldn't resist the weathered class 22
Regards,
Alex
Been waiting and waiting.....ordered my Class 37 in BR Blue Large Logo...... :beers:
earlier this week saw the deal Dapol had on an EWS class 58 DCC fitted......70 Pounds! :D
Sure there's one or two items coming for me later in the month!!!
Rule 1!!!!
Great to see so many people succumbing to a BP. By the way, they look like this :D

Its supposed to be green - I've ordered one on that basis. I believe there is another thread discussing this issue which came to the conclusion its green.

Thanks. I just e-mailed them. 2D-012-006 is supposedly the green 22 with white (~1930s) United Dairies tankers. But blue with silver tankers would be more useful to me. We shall see what they say!

Unfortunately the Blue version is still at full price of £179.95 if you order it from Dapol direct.

I think they did run in Oxfordshire, from 1967 - 69 (http://www.mremag.com/sites/10/documents/pullman.pdf) Another link (http://railcar.co.uk/type/blue-pullman/wr-operations.html)
Well there were 2 models for me:
No. 1 being the Blue Pullman, being a Leicester lad I remember my dad telling me about them running through when they were new.
No.2 being the Class 70, just had to have one, I think they look great, a sweet oasis of difference in the vast boring desert of Class 66's!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Pengi  I think this was the clincher for me..........
In the end when the LMR cars did arrive there was a new non-stop Oxford service which covered the 63 1/2 miles in one hour, starting on the 6th March 1967. They were also used on additional Bristol trains which stopped at Bath. The "Bristol Pullman" made use of both 6-car sets on the 08:45 from Bristol and 17:45 return.
When I find a Farish 4CEP going for £100 or less, I just have to buy it. Let me know if you know of any.
I'd like a class 70, but it must be in Colas livery, and if someone issues one, I'll just have to buy one.
And as for electrostar classes 375/377 and similar: if anyone issues one I'll just have to buy a couple of dozen.
I'd like to add, for the sake of any manufacturers reading this, that I would readily succumb to a) a Class 33 (of the Crompton persuasion) and a Class 50 (of the Hoover persuasion).
Scograil (Ipswich) has 4CEP's in all colours @ £99, 101's 3-car blue & blue/grey @ £79 and various other offers at present. i.e. Blue Pullman £179, 350 emu's £99 etc

If I ever come across anymore Dapol 86s in Intercity livery out there I guarantee I will succumb.
That said, I managed to pick one up from Australia on ebay last month with a decoder fitted for fifty odd quid including postage.

My treat to myself from TINGS from the Farish scrum which I just couldn't resist at 70 quid. I wasn't going to get another Tornado (I have it in *cough* OO) but at that price, in blue livery I just had to have it.

You didn't have to buy it; you could have left it for me :) But I mustn't be too greedy; I got 4 of them. :NGF:
It seems they have now run out of all of their Farish 4CEPs. I don't suppose they'll get any more at that price.
A Dapol voyager (because my Farish ones are so s-l-o-w) plus a Desiro (although in the wrong livery for me)
More Voyagers . . .
And a BP - a bit too ancient for my layout but I have my late father's Triang/Hornby OO version and it it a lovely looking train
(http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k540/PendythePendolino/DSC_8075.jpg)
And then a whole load of ICE trains . .
Sorry Jane, I've been promising myself one for ages, just wanted to get it at the lowest price. It doesn't really fit in with my current modelling, but I have promised myself that one day I would build a replica of the Bulleid double-deck trains that I went on as a child between Charing Cross and Dartford. The CEP reminds me of the more ordinary trains we used to catch for outings.
That's all right. I hope you enjoy it.
I am finding it very hard to resist the Dapol Class 22 with six tankers on their web site. Just wish they had better images of the loco and tankers. So the loco is green not blue and the tankers are white not silver?

Well. I've just started to run my new Dapol 22 in after oiling as per the instructions, and I've got a feeling I might be sending it back. Looks beautiful, as do the milk tankers, but is getting rather hot. Ran really well and smoothly in one direction, but started to slow and jerk slightly when run in the opposite direction just like;
http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=25090.msg270281#msg270281 (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=25090.msg270281#msg270281)
I took both bogies and checked them - both are free turning, although one was packed with grease and had a big lump of fluff on one of the gears. I've also put a drop of oil onto the worm just to dissolve any further grease.
Running it with the body off, I have noticed that the foam/rubber insulation over the motor bush plugs seem to be melting!! I'm going to run it for a bit longer with the body off to see if it cools down a bit, otherwise I will be e-mailing Dapol tomorrow to return it for a replacement.
A bit disappointing as my other 22 runs beautifully.

Hi mickeyflinn
My 22 does seem to be getting better over time. It feels a bit warm, but not really hot, after 30 mins running at medium speed. It has had about 2-3 hours running in now and is noticeably quieter in both directions. Occasionally slows down and sometimes stops at slow speed especially when pulling it milk wagons and an LMS full brake. Still starts off with a jerk on occasions. It is, however getting slowly better. I think everything must have been a bit tight.
It's by no means perfect but is becoming acceptably usable.
Also - be warned - I emailed Dapol about this problem a few days ago and there is no sign of a response. I haven't followed my email up yet because there's a good chance I'll be keeping my 22 now. However, this is not good customer service.

I've just re-sent an EMail I sent to Dapol regarding some questions on the new Maunsell coaches as I haven't had a reply after 3 weeks - it may well be that my original mail ran foul of their recent server outage, but if not, not a good sign.

I read somewhere that the customer returns system is not operational until the new year. I haven't heard anything from them - poor show eh chappies!!
Somehow , I've ended up with 3 of the new Farish Duchesses winging their way to me , all at the same time , the earliest of which was ordered from Rails in June 2012 . Ooh , err , how did that happen ?? And , more importantly , just exactly how am I going to manage to justify buying one of the new 4fs sometime soon ??? Hmmm , this could be tricky ! Cheers , Ric
OK, so someone posted a link to bargain prices on Dapol stock at Cheltenham Model Centre - now I've got an Ivatt 2-6-2T on its way to me. At £50 I'm prepared to take the risk on a possible duff 'un (based on other people's comments) although my previous Dapol Steam purchases have been OK...

1 class47 Titan in intercity
1 class 37 in Drs.

Notwithstanding my comment above, I have now managed to get this one on my test track, and my conclusion is that it is the biggest pile of :poop: I've ever come across. It made it about a yard before locking up solid and then on going backwards, making about 1 yard and a half before locking up solid again. The coupling rods all out of kilter, and no amount of readjustment makes a difference. One call to the retailer coming up tomorrow...
Following on from my last post regarding my Dapol Class 22 milk tanker set, I've now chipped it with a Digitrax DZ125IN ('borrowed' from another loco as I've got no spares), and copied all the CV's over from my other Class 22. It still runs a fair bit warmer than the other one, but has become far more controllable on DCC. At the moment it is merrily hauling its tankers around my track at a nice modest speed :).
Before I chipped it, I tried it on DC again - it didn't run at all well using my Bachmann controller (the one that comes with the train sets), but when I used my old On-Tracks MPC3/N controller (a specific N-gauge one), it ran smoothly and controllably down to a crawl ???!
Well I have lost the plot over the last 5 days and have purchased :poop: loads :D
1) Graham Farish Corridor Coaches x 6 Tan livery S/H not sure why I bought these though
2) 36 Assorted Wagons,Tankers Etc S/H
3) Six United Dairies Weathered Milk Tankers New
4) Dapol N Southern Railway M7 Class 0-4-4 T Southern Livery Weathered New
5) SR 5-BEL 'Brighton Belle Pullman' 5 Car Train Pack (1934) New
6) Dapol MM-002 N Gauge 7-plank Wagon: Lisher & Sons Lancing: No 50 Ltd Edition.

Ah someone I can ask then are they as good as they say they are. Do you keep all your rolling stock in them, and if so what do you do with all the empty boxes they came out of please.
If they are good will get another :worried: :o
I keep all my stuff in them.
I have yet to have any trouble with them.
One thing I do is keep locos in little clear polythene bags, makes them easier to lift out of the foam without bits 'catching'
Oh, and for empty boxes I flat pack them and 'nest' all the inserts to reduce space. Then they go under the bed in a big cheap underbed box thingy I got from Ikea.

My reasons? A wonderful little loco with loads of character, one of my favourite Japanese engines. There is a model in N Gauge (I have one), but they are hard to get hold of. The H0 model is just irresistible.

Well, my hot weathered green Class 22 (from the milk tanker set) died this afternoon :'( .
It had been running merrily away at a nice slow speed when it just stopped - the lights worked fine but no motor control. Checked it on my laptop via my Sprog - chip found (and working in another loco) but no movement, put the blanking plug back in tried it with a 9V battery but still nothing. I've even tried power directly onto the motor and nowt.
Phoned Dapol, they said phone DCC Supplies. Phoned DDC Supplies, and seconds later it was booked in and a pre-paid returns slip had been e-mailed to me.
So off it goes to DCC Supplies in the morning.

Another J39 in lner lined livery. To be renumbered and sound equipped. Total now in this livery 2. Along with two other very special Loco's which I can't say to much about at the moment but are Loco types used on the prototype of my up coming layout. 'SILLOTH BAY'
Now I really think I should pass on my other J39's in br livery especially the late crest ones.
I told myself firmly for many years that there would never be any steamers on my layout. But a cheap second hand J39 in weathered BR livery fits so nicely into my modelling framework that I eventually succumbed. Very nice it is too, but there will never be another steam train on my layout!!!!
(Probably)
Never say never
The J39 is a handsome thing and mine runs very well but the weathering (as many from Farish) is too uniform really, unlike the Dapol weathered stuff based on a Mercig template :hmmm:
The Dapol weathering is complete and can look samey on multiple vehicles, the Farish weathering is a useful base to put your own final weathering on... IMHO
A visit to the model shop yesterday intending on getting a few scenic bits ended up with me walking out of the shop with the new Farish 370-070 Cornish Riviera Express set :o
Its a pity the Warship with no yellow panels is only available in a dcc set as I would like an analogue one..or two
Regards,
Alex

I suppose if you really wanted one the set could be bought. The loco blanking plug put back (it was included), keep the coaches and sell off the DCC controller, track and the now redundant decoder and you wouldn't be far out of pocket if at all !
"Re: So You've Succumbed........ And Had To Buy.................?"
. . . . . one of those red and silver modern things people keep banging on about in the other thread :D

The Graham Farish Class 57 in Network Rail livery. I saw it in my local shop two weeks ago and simply fell in love with it. Last week Monday I returned to the shop and purchased it. It's a great model - now it needs a little track to get it to take a spin. I also need some cars / wagons to go with it. Oh well, at least I've got it!

Hi Westbury :),
Hope you've had no problems with the set.
Can you tell me the running numbers of the coaches, please? I'm wondering if I should succumb or not, and whether the set would fit in with my ideas. :hmmm:
Thanks in advance,
Tennoji
A second 4CEP in Blue/Grey....
Does not fit in with my time period but then again nor does a 1934 Brighton Belle...
I WILL succumb and WILL have to buy a Farish Castle when they are released...
Just bought a second hand prototype Deltic from Cheltenham model centre - near new for £80 and a 3 month warranty. - Couldn't resist.
In my trainspotting days I remember seeing this good looking diesel (strong words from a steam buff!!) thundering through Hornsey station on the way to or from Kings Cross - just had to have it for my in progress preserved railway.
:)
Not on my pre order list but I had to have the new Farish 4F after seeing all the pics on the forum and in mags :laugh3:

Hey Ho!! - Just received phone call from Cheltenham Model Centre saying Deltic has buffer missing. So cancelled order. What a disappointment. Still, I know where I can get another 'nearly new' Deltic for a little more cash. Or maybe I'll just save the cash for a pre-ordered item (if any eventually materialise that is!!)
:(

No problems at all, did remove the DCC chip to run the loco in then put it back in as I do with any DCC fitted loco I get. Running numbers for the Mk1 coaches are:
SO W3791
BCK W21080
Cheers ...

Now waiting for the 'Cumbrian Mountain' set to arrive...
Peedie Models new chimney pots !!
Decided that the vast array of card kits need something different to the cocktail stick chimleys. Next I will be buying the soundtrack from Mary Poppins, cue Dick van Dyke......
