Hi, what does anyone know about Drop Box?
Today I received two emails from them telling me there was a message for me and providing me with a link to click.
Well, as I wasn't expecting anything, and being the cautious type, I didn't click anything and immediately deleted said emails, then emptied the bin to be on the safe side. I hope I've done the right thing.
Your thoughts please?
Yep, avoid like a thing that you desperately avoid. Correct action taken.
DropBox is fine - but that's just a virus.
www.dropbox.com (http://www.dropbox.com) is a genuine file sharing site. However, whether the emails were genuine ................... ???

I'm a bit twitchy atm, had some scammer trying to blackmail me earlier this week, for a "gift" $7000 in bitcoin for watching porn and recording what was on my webcam. Funny that really, I've never watched porn, and, I don't have a webcam :P
Ah yes, I've had that a couple of times too, and like you haven't been watching any grumble!
You wonder how many people fall for these things, clearly enough!

I've had one of those e-mails this week too and it scared me because he quoted a password I have used in the past. I reported it to the Police and got a very pleasant call from a young PC who said that they had seen a lot of these recently and they were fairly sure it was a scam. Better to be safe than sorry. If the guy had done what he said he had done then that's the first crime and the attempt to blackmail me was a second crime but, as the policeman said, it would only take one person to respond and the criminal was well in pocket. He then went on to talk to me about bitcoins and the dark web at which point my eyes glazed over as I hadn't a clue what he was talking about. He then advised me to change all my passwords and e-mail address. That should keep me occupied for the next five years.

From my experience, if someone shares a file via Dropbox, the Dropbox email states who is sharing it with you. If you know the sender then it is probably genuine. I use it a lot and have never had any problems but I have never received any rogue messages.
I use Dropbox quite a lot and the only e mails I get from them are when I've logged in to upload a new vid or something. The mail just states that a log in was made on such and such a date.
