Hi Gang;
Well, 2nd May and I have decided to park the wallet for the month...April was a little heavy on spending!!
The idea is not to succumb to rash (or otherwise) purchases (bargains or not) to prepare myself for the landing of Class 70s and Mk2 coaches on these fair shores.
Wonder how long I'll last???
Later;
STU from EGDL 8)
Same here due to having to go and buy another cheap car to use for work. :(
Unfortunately when the cost of getting the old one through its MoT exceeds its value its time to wave bye-bye to it :goodbye:
Luckily I have all the trains I need :D
Paul
I try not to make promises that I might not be able to keep.
oh no not this again!!! lol
i'm going to get a payday loan of 10 grand and go straight to hatton's!!!!
tim
I can't join in with this this month - it is the Bristol show this weekend and I need some more points for my layout...
Well it's only the 2nd and Dapol have released the Fruit Ds so I will not be joining in this month. Especially if some hydraulicy goodness is also on the way. :)
Agree about the hydraulic (if you mean the class 22 - can't think the Westerns will land in May)
Managed to sneak in 4 wagons from Osborns which I ordered on the 29th April so unless any pre orders arrive I'm saving my dosh until the Wigan Show
Definately no train purchases this month.
Having my eyes tested next week and think I shall be forking out for new varifocal glasses  :'(
Well I spent quite a bit during April and look forward to spending a lot more this month, I would have even more to spend but my car rego is due on the 21st :veryangry:
sorry can't join you as I am going to visit Hattons today :sorrysign:
first time in my life. hope that the 2 x 3 hours journey makes it worth
March & April are our busy birthday months. Six out of the ten of us. Credit card has taken a big hit. The best thing is that I've done the accounts and emptied everything to pay the bill. Much better than paying the interest.
I need a couple of months to recover.
Saving for TINGS
Plenty to do in the house and garden to keep me busy.
Does buying a Farish catalogue count? :help:
So far so good, but some tempting stuff on eBay i have seen >:D :'( :D

Hope you enjoyed your visit to Hattons Maurits.......they're a friendly helpful bunch......
I'm trying not to buy but like others, I think the Class 22s are imminent.
Might be tempted by the Fruit Ds as well of course!

Seriously it can get expensive

Wow. Very pricey. I spent £550 last year and that with fairly cheap non designer frames! But with only my own club show (next weekend) this month and then holiday in Norway, spending on railways less likely to be a risk. Mind you a ride on the Flam line is in the offing.
Hi guys first post no here so be kind :-[
I've just been browsing through and noticed this topic and laughed as I said I'd not be buying anything myself this month! That was until I went into modelzone earlier and spied a 2 car blue 101 sat in the cabinet, the decision to buy it was made all the more easier by the £49.99 price tag :confused1:

May be more than one month :'(
Have one old pair that I could use the frames from - Think they are Diesel but can't read the small print now, which is why the eye test is needed.

Nothing wrong with grabbing a bargain like that Wayne
Modelzones selection of N Gauge is slowly improving ;)
cheers John.
That's exactly what I thought!
The bloke in there said that the n gauge in there will be improving soon, mind considering there was that, a green 03 for £36 and the limited edition 08 they do it shouldn't take much!
I do like the limited edition 08, it is a very smart looking livery :heart2:
cheers John.

Hi gang,
Putting this back into perspective, the May 'no spend' is an aspiration....although I bought a few (non rolling stock) items at Bristol the other day....about £10 all in.
Also, I spent some money with Bob of N Train as a speculative project in the last month or so.....
Hopefully, ther is no disrespect to the traders on this forum (as none is intended), but more the aspiration that I can exercise the self control to prioritise my purchases in the next few months...
Of course, if Bob gets his 313(& derivatives) to market, I may well reassess!!!
Later,
Stu in LFBD
Touche (or however you spell it)
I do absolutely agree with this. although it was a pitty that the class 43 Virgin is blowing up decoders everytime it runs for 5 minutes , but they offer such a good service that the power car will be replaced after the bank - holiday.
was it worth the visit, yes more then that, lovely people, but for me living in Cambridgeshire a long ride.
Bristol show today...
4 sets of Peco points...
3 2nd hand Minitrix DB trucks (reduced to £6 each)...
1 ballaster...
1 DVD on 'How to Airbrush' (decided to start learning somewhere!)
...so definitely not 'No Buying Month' for me!
Hi Gang;
Well, that didn't last long....
45114 for converting to Ixion....£36
90030 maybe a DB repaint...£32
Bargains....the pair of them!!!!
Later;
STU from EGDL
Does spending a book token on a copy of the 1863 Bradshaws guide count :uneasy:
Well I broke the rule this month.
£1.70 on a set of Peco NR202 brick loads.
Have had to repaint them to match the stacks for the brickworks project.
Suppose I shall also have to invest in 4 off 5 plank open wagons to fit them in.
I`ve blown it, 4 new Loco`s, new class 70 tomorrow, 7 DCC chips and 5 sets of points!
Not all bad though as it was all paid for by selling my crap on ebay to get the paypal funds :)
Not quite N gauge related, but I have booked on an airbrushing course in September - I want to be able to repaint my own loco's, rather than spending hundreds of pounds getting someone else to do it for me!
Well, its been a couple of weeks now,but our club exhibited a oo gauge layout at the Mickleover Exhibition in Derby.I was one of the layout operators for the whole weekend and occasionally managed to get away from my duties on the layout to get the teas in.Whilst on my travels I got a chance to have a look round. It wasn't really my intention to buy anything but my weekend tally is as follows:
2 Metcalf bus garage kits,
2 medium sized engine sheds, labelled with EWS decals from Plus Daughter,
An AA retail/car repair workshop/building,also from Plus Daughter,
A Zimo MX648 sound decoder with class 24 sounds from Coastal DCC,
And finally,an ESU Loksound v4micro sound decoder with Legomanbiffo's class 47 sounds from DC Kits/DE Videos.
The bus garages are going to be kitbashed into a small chain and rope factory(don't ask,my rather daft sense of humour is running riot),the 2 engine sheds are going to be weathered and relabelled BREL,the AA will also be rebranded as well.
As for the sound decoders, well, the Zimo is now in its new home,a Farish/Modelzone Ltd edition RTC class 24 number 97201.Having completed the install yesterday, everytime I walk past the test track I can't resist starting it up.Its fantastic. It was a bit fiddly though, squeezing all the wires in to the bodyshell and the speaker in the tanks but its done and its superb.I think I might even get a blue one and do another to go with the RTC one.I have a green one to do for a mate at the club to do as well.
And the Loksound v4micro with Legomanbiffo's superb class 47 sounds is about to be started.I have my Farish class 47 numbered 47035 up on the ramps ready for stripdown, cleaning, alterations to the chassis to accept the speaker and decoder then reassembly. After the results of the class 24,the speaker is going in the tanks in this one too.
So,my conclusion,no buy month for me was an absolute non starter.Fortunately for me,I won't be going to anymore shows this month so the temptation to spend any more has diminished, just like the £250 I spent at Derby.
Next up,Wigan. So June won't be another no spend month either.
Oh well!
Pete
:Class31: :Class37: :NGaugersRule:
Oopps, just sucumbed to ordering something from Shapeways :-\
I think I've been quite good this month as I've only bought 4 Peco wagons.
I've already given up on June as (a) we have the Wigan Show and (b) I'm still hoping the damned class 22 will land :veryangry:
Well it may end up being "No buy month" for me: the Dapol Class 22, Grampus wagons and Farish Mk 2a's are all taking so long it'll be June before my pre-orders are processed...
It could be worse though: the Dapol Westerns are going to take even longer. I hope.

I don't think you'll have long to wait for Dapol's 22's and Westerns, both have reviews in June's Model Rail.
I almost survived the month but......payday arrived and I've ran out of wagons....parcel arrived from Hattons this morning..... ::)
I failed miserably - bought a Desiro and another Voyager but then I'd not bought any trains since last Dec.
I was hoping May would have been full of trainy purchases (namely all the remaining track and pointwork I need) but the local place I get it from I was a touch too late in getting my order in to them at the end of April so they themselves are waiting on their next order now, so May has been an unintended purchase free month :(
Just bought 8 Freightliner hoppers for the 70, whoops :)

I've overspent this month (again), so a lot of items will be appearing on the Classifieds section.

I have bought a class 08 shunter and a 150/1 dmu this month and also picked up a few more HAA wagons...
I don't break even each month anymore, so should cut back on outgoings...
Well, thus far I have not spent nothing on model railways this month...or next month; I have a wedding in New York to pay for...

How much do you want for your NSE Voyager?
Hi All;
Failed miserably myself....with 2 x Desiro, A DB 60, an EWS 37, a broken 150!!! and today a Class 70.....
So I'm starting a new thread for June!!!!

Don't tempt me! I can't even afford the decoders to run it. :( Still, that's the price I paid for changing to DCC. I have a load more loco's to go on here tonight.
Well, I didn't do too badly ... track pins, brown WS pigment, and a couple of Peco buffer 'kits' !
June looks to be 'dry' too :(
Mike
Concentrating on building the layout. So I need a couple of boards of PCB and some inline plugs to carry power accross boards, oh and another roll of solder, and two rolls of green and one of blue wire... Thats a trip to Maplins for me for me then..
AND
If NGauge Bob just happend to make his new 465 kits materialise - I could be pursuaded...
I was doing well until a flurry of maroon Dapol Gresleys hit fleabay, at which stage all resolve flew out the window. Then to work the wallet some more Ultima released Thopson coach kits so I snaffled a few of those.
Since I've switched from a large roundy-roundy plan to a smaller terminus station I've been disposing of stock on fleabay, including 20 16T minerals and rakes of conflats with containers. As we draw to the end of the month I've sold enough not only to cover the coaches, but contribute to the three 2MTs and two J39s I've pre-ordered. When those arrive I think I have my loco fleet complete for the two eras I'm planning.
Lets see how long that lasts!
Cheers
Dave

And some lovely purchases you made - is that the Dapol or Farish Voyager?
The farish one
I failed and bought myself an 08 as a birthday present to myself. Good job the Dapol Class 22's are still floating somewhere near the middle east.
Well it's the 31st and I stuck to my promise . . . almost :D
Allowed myself one small purchase, eight quid's worth of Wiking cars on Ebay. It DID include three Sierras so I couldn't not buy them really
