Evening all

Right well 2015 might be a good year as I have been offered a job in Malta subject to me going out there and having a look around.

To keep me busy of a night as I'm not moving my family out I will look at building a small layout but I can't seem to find any model stores on the island can anyone help me please.

Thanks

Newportnobby

A Google search has brought this one up but they don't appear to do N gauge ::)
Might be worth contacting them, Duncan.

Not a shop, but in Attard there is a chap (Nicholas Azzopardi, but now getting on in years) who has built an N Gauge model of the Malta railway that used to run from Valletta to Rabat. I believe he will open it for visitors by prior arrangement (hopefully the tourist office can help you make contact, perhaps through his son, Joseph). Here are the relevant links:

Getting around Malta is easy by bus. A week-long pass costs only 6.50 euros.

TDM is a member here from Tenerife ( no model shops!) but it is worth reading how he gets excellent support from UK model shops.

worth checking out the postal rates from Hattons etc.

Happy New Year

Best of luck with the job Duncan, sounds like a good opportunity. A small layout sounds like a good idea, possibly a module to join to your main layout? Don't forget to keep in touch with the forum  :NGF:  Cheers & let us know what the beers like!   David

I'm in Malta this week and have found two model shops. One advertises that they do model trains in their window (Paces Model Centre, 54 Old Theatre St. Valletta) but there is only HO mainland stuff. The second shop is mainly books but they have loads of model cars, including Corgi N gauge stuff (Meli Bookshop, 185 Old Bakery Street, Valletta).

I think a resident will have to import if they want to build a model railway !

Great work Bob

I'm heading over to Valletta tomorrow so will take a look.

As Railwaygun states - I have to import all my model railway items from the U.K. and use Hattons regularly as well as Osborns and Gaugemaster and others. Normally there is no problem with delivery but can take a couple of weeks.

Between 1985 and 2000 spent nearly every Summer holiday in Malta (in Birzebuggia) as loved the Island. It was cheap then, but since they exchanged the Maltese Lira for the Euro I believe it has got a lot more expensive.

If you want any info on places to visit in Malta just PM me - but best thing to do is rent a car and do a tour of the Island - it's only small - but beware they drive on both the Left and Right hand side of the road depending on where the shade is!
