I have to agree with the previous posts, if you want decent RTR models then Oxford Diecast and Base Toys look reasonable value. There have been a few buses and lorries produced by Graham Farish.  I have a handful of examples of Oxford Diecast but they're not really my thing as I model European N now.

Other than that it's a case of hunting around for 3D prints and generic cheap plastic vehicles (often 1:160 scale so a tad small for British N).

When I was modelling British N in the 70s we had to make do with "white metal lumps" you painted yourself. They did the job at the time but rather crude now.

Quote from: PLD on Today at 07:51:19 AMTo get cheaper you are looking at the bottom end of the 3D print and Whitemetal casting market which you will need to paint/finish for yourself, and some bear so little resemblance to what they purport to be, the kindest thing you can say is they have the right number of wheels..  :(

Sometimes even the last bit of the above post can be doubtful :D

Consider yourself lucky it wasn't Wales. It would be 20mph (for now anyway)

I personally think Oxford Diecast are good value. Excellent N scale models.

Hello Brian

Welcome aboard!

If you are looking at the Oxford Diecast price list, you might be able to buy the models at a bit of a discount from some retailers.

The other range I can think of, if you are looking for inexpensive 'ready to run' vehicles, is Base Toys.  Here's a link to Osborn's of Bideford's website to give you an idea of the range...

With all good wishes.

If you're looking for models of actual UK cars for less than Oxford Diecast you'll be struggling unless you find someone selling off a bundle second hand.

If you're really on a budget, there are generic cars, buses and lorries in multi-packs for not a lot of money:

Some even come with lights fitted, however if you're looking for a Ford Fiesta or Morris Minor at 50p a car you'll be disappointed.

The only other option I can think of is some of the generic Japanese ones you can get. Bear a passing resemblance to British models, but that's about it...

There are many alternatives highlighted in the Vehicles sub-forum... However, if you are looking for "Cheaper Than Oxford" you are likely to be disappointed... Oxford are the cheapest ready-to-use...
