Very nice! Wot, no Mk1 coaches?  ???

Not today. Atm i'm only after a Maroon CK which i can get at work cheaper than the ones which were on sale today.

I've gone & bought a pair of my first ever class 20's to add to the fleet  ;D. The headcodes on the weathered version were an absolute nightmare to fit, somehow managed it in the end although they are a little crooked. Both are smooth runners but are a bit noisy even after running in, hopefully they will get better with use.

Cheers, Stu.

They look great - sorry to hear they are a bit noisy. Hope they improve!

:hmmm: I was hoping they would be quiet as the earlier Class 20's acted like a reverb chamber and were almost deafening :-\

Sprintex

Someone had a pair of these at club on monday night. In common with most new models they were almost silent as they whizzed round the test track, not sure how much running they've already had though ;)

When I've got both of them running round on my double track layout they buzz like a swarm of bees! :hmmm: The weathered one runs a bit quieter than the other one, They seem to run ok & don't get hot, I don't think there's anything seriously wrong with them, I'm wondering if its because the chassis are tight against the bodyshell causing the noise? :confused2: Unfortunately I don't know how loud the old farish ones were to compare as I've never owned one.
Cheers, Stu.

I have an old Farish one that used to purr along when I first got it (a LONG time ago), but when I gave it a go the other day it has seized up solid. I've got me eye on getting a new one so I'm watching all the stuff on here about the new ones with great interest.

not quite sure what the heritage DMU is doing there

This evening i removed the bogies on both of the class 20's,(the bogies just pull off but are a bit tight), I noticed on both of them the brass worm drives & bearings looked a bit dry, so I gave them a couple of drops of oil each, put them back together & ran both of them for just over an hour on the layout, its made a huge improvement & they are running much quieter than before, they now make about the same level of noise as my latest versions of the class 37 & 47's so I'm happy with that!  :claphappy: Worth checking & oiling if anyone else has the same problems with theirs.
cheers, Stu.

My latest addition is this rather nice Tomix KiHa 120 DMU.

Just right for Kanjiyama... :D

Also are a few detailing items, including some of the new(ish) Kato Toyota Hiace minibuses...the highlight for me being the JR Eastern liveried example (white with green stripe). Perfect for my region of Japan!

Probably needs an overhaul and possibly some split gears replaced if it is a plastic geared version.

Cheers,
Alan

I love the KiHa series DMUs.......they are so tempting.... :)

This particular one consists of two single cars...one of which is powered. Strictly speaking it is the wrong company for me...the KiHa 120 is operated by JR West, however they are popular units for lighter lines, and (I think) are starting to make their way onto third-sector lines; which is why I bought it. ...That, and the fact I think it looks quite nice...

It seems the rolling stock market in japan is far wider than the UK. Some stuff goes on for ever, but the 'newer' units have a working life of about 15-20 years prior to replacement. As they are still relatively sound, many find their way onto these private railways; often remaining in their original liveries (or the same base colours minus tranfers and brandings etc.).

This means, the fact a two-car unit has been shipped a few hundred miles across the country into a different region is not as incongruous as it may seem at first...

We've been on holiday this week in Dorset (West Bay) and my lovely GF has let me cram in a few trips to a few of the local shops.

On the way down we passed by Buffers near Axminster where we were greeted with the offer of a Tea or Coffee while we browsed the shop.  Very friendly bunch in there, especially the young lad who was most impressed when we said we'd travelled about 220miles that morning to get down there.  I wa promised an early Valentines Day gift so I picked up an EWS BRA Steel Strip Carrier.

The next trip out was to Pecorama (Exhibition & Shop Only) which went a long way to cement my GF's interest in me building a 'proper' layout.  Some of the layout's there were excellent and well worth the £1.90 entry fee.  We felt it be rude not to have a Devon Cream Tea on the Orion Coach while we were there.  The shop was going through a bit of a sort around but I still managed to find a BR Grey Toad Brake Van making my collection of BR Grey Brake Van's now three.

We also visited (don't laugh), Toymaster in Weymouth, but it was sad to see that their stock of N Gauge stuff is now dwindling compared to recent years so we had to make do with looking at the big one's in red boxes.

Obligatory pic below.

Good buy! I especially like the toad! If the young lad at Buffers was impressed with your 220 mile trip, wait 'til I pop in there in August!
