Can some point me in the right direction posting pictures. I have used post images but it only leaves a link in my thread.

It should be leaving a link in your text, which will work if you preview the post and when you save.

This is good in theory, but rarely works in practice ( for me)

I use imgur.com its pretty painless to set up and free to use providing you log on to your page once in every six months.

The plus for me using this image host is that I can share links to my pictures easily.

External hosting is useful in some ways and does mean we're not filling up the forum server, but over the years we've had problems with stuff disappearing when the host closes down or changes policies (photobucket for example) rendering the posts on here corrupted.

Too true. I suffered that with Photobucket and then Dropbox ::)
I currently use Flickr for hosting short vids and am allowed up to 1000 (they're all backed up on a flash drive as well)

Yes keeping the forums bandwidth down must be a priority, I wonder if that's one of the reasons it has had to change hosts a few times now?

One thing I have noticed is that when members do upload their pictures onto the forum, some seem to take ages to open unlike those that are linked to someones post's.

I often get impatient especially when there are about half a dozen pictures or so they just take forever to load, the downside to this is that it annoys me and I end up closing the thread never to read it!

It also helps if pics are re-sized to about 1MB before they are uploaded. I use 'Paint' to do this.
The Kawasaki forum, for example, won't allow any pics above 1.2MB.

If you are a windows 10 user, you can strip photo's very easily, I strip photo's of 8MB down to approx 250kb or even as low as 50kb depending upon what the photo is.

Frequently I post two to four photos using less than 1MB of storage

Stripped photo's also load very quickly

That's large!   The vast majority of the photos I upload here are 200Kb-300Kb.  Looking at my gallery I have a small number over 700Kb but they are the exception.

But I didn't set the NGF rules which were subsequently relaxed
Sure, I could reduce them further but would prefer guidance from Admin before doing so.

On a related subject, I've forgotten how to start a new user gallery. Can somebody remind me please?

Cheers,

Chris

... I've forgotten how to start a new user gallery.

Do you mean a new sub-category within your user gallery?

Navigate to the gallery and the link to add a sub-category is at the bottom of the page

its all far too complicated and unnecessary.  other forums i'm on i can just copy and paste.  so i dont bother on here. i can always paste on to the facebook site if needed.
i used to be indecisive...but now i'm not so sure.
