Title: Flipping Images
Post by: Barry M on May 02, 2020, 02:28:39 PM
Hi all,

I want to participate more on this forum, but when I load my images it flips them upside down.
I have tried uploading upside down, thinking it will turn right way up..it doesn't!
Why does it keep flipping my images?
Thanks all.

Barry

Are you using an Australian camera?  :D     :D

Seriously, what are you taking the photos on? From what I've read, camera-phones seem to be notorious for doing this sort of thing, flagging images with a rotation property which some software acts on and some doesn't.  Are you manipulating the images with a photo editor before uploading?

I use normal digital camera and never get any problems.

Your better off using a free image host, I use https://imgur.com/

That way I have the freedom to post the uploaded saved images to other websites etc.

I'm using an iPhone to take the images then put on my computer from iCloud.
Then upload to forum from PC.

Thanks all.
It seems if I resave it to another folder on my PC it doesn't flip.
Technology eh?

My Samsung phone does the same, upside down, so when I upload them to the site I change the box on the download page to 180 that usually does the trick. By the way that is taking the pic with the phone in the horizontal position.

That is a known issue - iPhones (and some other mobiles) don't use their orientation sensor to detect which way round you hold the camera when you take photos in horizontal format. It attributes what it thinks is the right way up - as far is it's concerned, you are holding the phone upside down!!!

One option is to get used to holding he phone the other way round. The other answer is, as others have already said, to reorientate and resave the file in a photo-editing package before uploading.
