hi,
should all the tankers in a rake be for the same petrolium company?
also, i notice that a lot of the tankers in most rakes are actually unbranded or just too dirty to see the brand logos, or the running numbers or anything else.... is there a way of removing the brand logos easily from farish TEAs and then weathering them up as i like?
the era i'm going for is mid to late 80s / early 90s, i was thinking of buying some pre weathered Fina tankers, and then just buying a few black or darker grey tankers, removing the company brands and heavily weathering them...

The Goods and Not So Goods website has several pages on the subject. Here are three of them.

tim, if you do weather them, make sure that the warning labels are kept nice and clean, as per rid regulations
if it helps have a look at this list of u.n. numbers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UN_numbers_1201_to_1300 and this one http://the-ncec.com/hazchem/
for a laugh look at this, this is what is called a B.L.E.V.E. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf3WKTwHpIU&feature=related

cheers for replies and useful links
i got a fina TEA on ebay, it's unweathered, so i'll practice weather that one, then maybe get a few of the black bp ones and try to de brand them and then weather them a bit more...
best wishes
tim
don't know what you use to remove branding or paint, but I've found that T-cut on a cotton bud works well without damaging the paint underneath.
use it mainly to remove numbers etc.

Hi Tim,
I think peco do tanker kits saving you the trouble of removing the markings & allowing you to paint them as you wish :)
hi nick,
cheers for the tip, i'll try out t-cut on cotton bud, i think the BP black TEAs would be easy enough to do, only have to remove the BP green / yellow logo...
do peco do TEA wagon kits?
cheers
tim
i bought this wagon on ebay (Fina TEA, split from a set i think)....
anyway it has no hazchem signs on it, why is that? does it need some?
thanks
tim

That's painted in a 1960s livery, before Hazchen markings were applied.
Peco do 45t TTA kits, but not 100t TEAs.
hi
thanks for reply
it was sold in a set with a pertolium sector class 37, yet it's a 1960s livery wagon???? that makes no sense, why did bachmann/farish do that?
cheers

Look on the bright side - Hornby used to sell tanks in Polo mint livery...!!

They were awesome - and the minitrix duracell tank.
if i removed the older fina brand logos, and then added hazchem signs, and then weathered the wagon, then it would fit into the 1980s era right? the TEA looks the same as any other one to me...
does anyone have 2 hazchem decals or stickers they can send me or know where i can get some???
i have now also got 3 of the factory weathered fina tanks with the more modern logo that was a red and blue stripe. they were £9 each...
tim
want to make it look like this....

I'd say that should look OK. There are some on Paul's site with the old logo, but that was in '79, weathered and with the Hazchems added.
