During the lock down I have ordered a few things via Amazon. They have stated that they are prioritising medical supplies and the like and non 'urgent' items seem to take about a week for dispatch. Last night, at 2159hrs I ordered a set of Rik Wakeman CD's. At 0303hrs this morning, an email arrived stating that the CD's had been dispatched! I have just received an email stating that they have been delivered - that is less than twelve and a half hours!  :o. (I have had to use a UK forwarding address as they could not be delivered to Ireland, so I will probably have to wait another week now  :().

I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.

Some might say they are "medical supplies" - one of his piano solos has the same effect as the best anaesthetics...  ;)

Early on in the pandemic Prime was 2-3 days instead of the usual next day, but I have to say everything in the last couple of months has continued to be next day. For us that's usually about 4-5 in the afternoon, which is fine, but I place 2-3 Amazon orders a week and they've all been spot on. Very impressed as always!

I should add that I have not used Prime- this was a normal delivery item.

Haven't noticed any difference with my Prime deliveries, all of them have been next day and the Amazon couriers have been spot on. Very impressed.

They're definitely slower during the pandemic - we're having to make do with next day delivery instead of same day  ;D We do live only a couple of miles from an Amazon warehouse/depot though.

Seems to be pretty much the same delivery times for me as it was before.  I don't use Prime.

Bit naughty today though, just had an email "parcel delivered, handed to recipient" so I looked outside and it was on the doorstep. There's been no knock at all since an RM parcel came earlier today.  Good job the weather is ok.

The most amazing delivery by Amazon that I'm aware of is the Opera House in Manaus.  :D

As there's not a lot of rock lying around there, pretty much all of it was shipped in from Europe.

The Q

I'm about 100miles from their big depot in Peterborough,  I've occasionally received stuff in 12 hours.  But the hold up is this end,  I'm the last area on route before they fall in the north sea.
So my order of drill bits a few minutes ago,  will arrive at the nearest sorting site about 40 miles away overnight,  be put on the van in the morning,  but won't reach here till around 16:00...

I ordered two tops for swmbo they arrived bang on time the next day, but I am still waiting for a baseboard cap ordered the day before. Before you ask I lost my old cap while out walking, I must have taken it off put it down and then walked off ?.

If I order in the morning, sometimes I can get things the same day...

My wife appears to have a deal with Amazon where we become a remote stockholding point for them. We have a daily top up of stuff from the regular and very affable delivery driver. Told me he is earning loads more during the recent "lockdown".

Philip.

Another superb delivery from Amazon/DPD. Ordered Thursday evening, despatched from Barcelona and delivered today, brilliant.

Makes you wonder if this will be affected when we finally crash out of the EU in December. For some reason, some of the stuff I order seems to come in from the EU.

I ordered a book on class 47s last week got the notification that it was 4 stops away then an hour later that it was being returned to the Swindon depot...
Normally our stuff comes via Bristol DBS2 which is next door to where I work and quite often see the van leaving when I finish work  :smiley-laughing:

Sorry, but I WILL NOT use Amazon except when I absolutely can't find what I want anywhere else. I would rather pay a bit more and support a British firm which treats its workers as people and pays its taxes in this country. The paltry amount of tax they pay probably doesn't even cover the environmental damage their delivery vans cause. And more often than not, if you shop around you can find what you want cheaper elsewhere. It used to be Tesco that I disliked for pushing small firms out of the High Street, but at least they are OUR bullies...

Grrrr...  >:( :veryangry:

Sorry about the rant. I'll go and have a bit of a lie-down.

Cheers,

Chris
