I have put this post in 'General' because I don't think it would be seen by too many in the 'Computer help' section of the forum.  If I have committed a sin, well, just shoot me and move it!  So sorry.

I have a very old program that I have been using for a large number of years.  It is a CAD prog., very basic, AutoSketch v2.2...  My problem is that I have upgraded the laptop where it used to live and now it doesn't like to run any more.
My first attempt at a fix was to try to replace it with some other software.  I can't find anything that works as well for my needs.  It has a very different approach at the input level to everything that I have tried.  I really want it back again.
AS2.2 was built for Win '98 and is actually a 16bit prog.  I had been running it in 32bit Win. XP and even there it had a couple of issues which I had learned to work around.

I have now decided that I want it back badly enough to dedicate my old IBM laptop to it's exclusive use but I don't have Win '98 any more.  Any sensible consideration, monetary or what have you, could be considered if anyone can help with this.  It would have to be the CD version as even I don't have a floppy drive around any more.  All offers will be seriously considered.

Thanks for reading, regards, Allan.....

If everybody did that the forum would be in chaos! :telloff:

Have you tried running the Win98 virtual machine. Not tried it myself, but ... http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/05/27/installing-windows-98-on-windows-virtual-pc.aspx
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Yeah, I did.  It was OK except that the function keys cause the prog to crash.  Unfortunately I can't get round that coz the software make a lot of use of the function keys with no alternative way to achieve some of the tasks.
Thanks Malc.....

edit:  Malc ye booger!  You changed your post as I was replying to it!  I don't have a copy of 98 to install in virtual machine but if I can get one I would give that a go...  Compatibility mode doesn't work.

Well, seems like I posted in the wrong place, kinda thought I had.  I got my knuckles rapped and the post moved...  Accepted!

I see that a subsequent post I made has been removed with no comment, thus, I don't know what my sin was...
Hope I don't repeat it coz of not knowing what it was!!!...

Oh well!

Hi Zogbert

Did you get this sorted? If not I have a Genuine Windows 98 disk and its licence key which you are welcome to have free of charge (dont think I will be needing it again!).

If you want it message me your postal address and I'll pop it in the post tomorow.

Parky

Either get yourself an old PC from the local market or the usual auction site to run Win 98 on or download a copy of VirtualBox and run your Win 98 in there

It's here!  Came this morning, I'll see about getting it installed later.  Probably this evening.
Good service from RM...

I have made a small donation to the forum kitty as a thanks for this since you would not let me even refund your postage costs.  Since there is no option to donate in another's name I have entered it as 'Anonymous'.

Grateful thanks, Allan..... :thankyousign:
