Have to agree, most things are taking at least 30 seconds to change.

I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.
If a friend seems distant, catch up with them.

I'd say there's probably very little point in adding any more "it's slow again" replies now. We know the problem is being looked at, I think wait until @Tank says they think it's fixed and please notify if further problems?

Quote from: Ed on August 08, 2023, 09:09:26 AMThere were five new posts in the Layout Construction board that didn't show up when I selected Unread Posts or Unread Topics, this morning.

They were for 'Poppingham - a Table-Top Railway in British 'N' Gauge', 'Northbridge - 1960s BR(WR)', 'Perthshire Railway Preservation Society', 'Hilsden' and 'Perranwell Station', posted between 10:54pm and 11:37pm last night.

I only found these new unread posts as I got an email alert about a new reply to 'Poppingham' and went searching around.

Screen shot of the two I've not yet read.

Wonder how many other people are not seeing new posts when selecting Unread Posts?

I'm sure I'm repeating myself.  :D  I was awaiting an assessment to be made for what causing the problems.  Because there are so many 'add ons' to the forum that we like, it's slowing the forum down.  This is due to bad coding, somewhere.  So, when lots of people access the forum, and the bad codng is using up more resources than is needed, it hugely adds onto the load on the server.

We're working with the developer to try and change this.

I'm so sorry that this is happening.  Believe me, I'm the most annoyed.  The forum was super fast before all of the modifications.  But, as was said above, the forum will take time to iron out all of the errors.

@Tank - Thanks for the update.  Personally if this had happened in a commercial organisation they would have either stress tested the configuration prior to rolling it out, or if that wasn't an option and it went tits up after roll out would have rolled back to the last backup of the old system as soon as the issues were highlighted to mitigate the loss and give some breathing space to investigate what is causing the slow database lookup or which plug in is dragging server performance down.

If the server is being hosed on a virtual server in some data centre then maybe its something to do with how that server was configure (presumably under Hyper V or some other virtualization).

Hopefully it won't be long before the offending plugin, or script is located and removed / fixed and the experience of using the forum becomes a pleasurable one again.

Well I must of missed them!

Humor me and please explain where I can find 'All Unread Posts'

Also, I got an email alert saying you'd replied but your reply didn't come up when clicking Unread Posts.

Hey folks, we are looking into the slow effect.

NGFTech

Just adjusted the database to stop it 'running away' with the gallery.

It seems to have stopped the slow load.

However, on previous tests this causes problems with posting to the gallery from posts in that the popup box would not auto insert the code for the image you posted into your posts. However, your image would have still made it to the gallery.

Is that true for others?

Hope I am not whining too much - and I really appreciate all of @Tank 's hard work on the migration -  but is there a plan to change the layout of the opening page to be similar to the old one? The list of new posts, unread message etc. at the top of the page was really good ( and I might suggest moving the donation button back up somewhere near the top as it was before ),

Cheers,

Colin.

And then I did see (dumbo I am) that there is a small donate link on the top line as well as at the bottom of teh page ... durrrr )

LOL  Glad you saw that.  There is an issue with the adverts and banners appearing on the right.  I'm hoping to have that fixed this week by NGF Tech, though he needs the developers of the Ads modification to work with him on it.

I will also ask NGF Tech to reinstate our preferred buttons/links at the top of the forum for Unread Post etc, like it used to be, but in the same place as now.

Hope that helps.

Since my last post no one has experienced any slow loading? Is that behind us now?

I can't speak for anyone else but speed and lack of the forum being too stressed is just fine, thanks
