Title: Server Move
Post by: Tank on December 29, 2014, 09:38:03 PM
Hello all,

On Tuesday afternoon we shall be changing servers. The forum will be down for a short time whilst the changeover happens.

We hope that this upgrade will solve a lot of the issues with the forum - slowness and 503 errors.  There is still an ongoing problem with the forum's software, but we are waiting for SMF to issue a fix for that.

Many thanks for your patience.

Tank.

Good luck with the move.

Will it be possible to have both running for a while, with the old one in read only mode, until the switch over happens?

Cheers
Dave

Dave - give poor Tank a break - I'm sure we'll only be down for a short time. I know this forum is a bit like a drug and is difficult to do without (I am totally addicted) but take a couple of extra beers until everything is up and running.

My suggestion was intended to give him a break.  Last move when things didn't go as quickly as everyone hoped, and there was pressure from forum users to hurry it up. My thinking was that a read only copy would keep users from hassling Tank if there were a delay.

I've done many a server move myself and know how impatient users can be!

Cheers
Dave

Lovely to read that you enjoy the forum so much.

The forum will be in 'maintenance mode' for some of the changeover, so you can keep reading. ;)

Good luck Tank.

Is there anything you want us to specifically test when the new service is back up?

Well I'm "testing" it now at nearly 11pm our time and I guess nothings been switched off yet. But I do agree with the suggestion to give Tank a bit of slack.... I think we can live without our forum fix for however long needed.....

I think.... he said, reaching for the scotch  :uneasy: :worried:

Sorry folks, it didn't go to plan.  Rather than keep the forum offline for the rest of the evening I decided to hold off of the move until tomorrow.

I'll keep you all posted.

We were almost there with the transfer today, but it didn't work out.  It's too late now, so perhaps tomorrow.  Will keep you posted.

Need alcohol......  :(

Oh dear, I feel for you; it will get there eventually, you really have been trying very hard by the look of things.

Good luck! I'll keep them crossed for you.

Not been a member for very long, but I really did miss it while it was in maint mode!  ;)
