Well chaps, in a few posts we have gone from Andrew Cushin (not quite sure how to describe him but not unpleasant pop with a bit of power - @port perran approves), to some more power pop by Pink, to a RAF brass band playing possibly "In the Mood". So, I afraid I am going to take you back to 1974, with this prog rock band famous for flying tea pots. Here is Gong playing "Master Builder" from their album You...

Steve Hillage revisited this tune with his "Glorious Om Riff" on his album Green.

Here's the aforementioned "Glorious Om Riff" note the many time signature changes!

Thanks, Tim. I really enjoyed that but felt sorry for the drummer who must have had to keep his wits about him!

Thanks Tim. I had no idea that Gong are still around.
I saw them, complete with Daevid Allen at one of the early Glastonbury mudfests in about 1971 when I was around 17.
If I remember they had terrible trouble with their sound system probably not helped by the weather.
Nevertheless an interesting outfit. Thanks for the reminder.
Cheers

PS This is what Glastonbury was like in the early days.
A far, far cry from the huge numbers attending these days and the vast commercial enterprise that Glastonbury has become.

We last went in 2015 I think it was - still very enjoyable but so, so busy and so different from the early days.

Great stuff @port perran . I have not done Glastonbury! Gong are still going but with no original members. My concerts attended spreadsheet tells me that I saw Pierre Moerlen's Gong at The Roundhouse (Camden) on Sunday 21 December 1975 with support. I quote from my notes - Eddie and the Hots Rods was not my cup of tea at all. Alcatraz made an impression of being a fairly sophisticated band. East of Eden was a prog-rock band but I cannot really remember their performance here. Gong by now had morphed into a jazz-rock band under the able direction of drummer Pierre Moerlen (RIP), so no more Pot Head Pixies but a showcase of impressive musicianship.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks Mick @Newportnobby , glad you enjoyed the "Glorious Om Riff". I think SH is a very underrated guitarist and I do like his glissando touches.

Thanks for that Mick.
SH is indeed a somewhat underrated musician.
Now, talking of 1971 and Glastonbury - here's another band that I saw in the mud that year plus I also saw them "indoors" at Bristol and Devizes . Take note @Trainfish
Quite frankly, live they were a bit "all over the place" which was likely drug induced and sometimes a bit of a racket plus they were unusual in having two drummers.
Nevertheless, beneath the somewhat ragged exterior there was an underlying talent that never really came to the fore.
Here they are with Uncle Harry's Last Freakout :

I saw Pink Fairies in the 70s and still have their single 'The Snake' on 45 :)

Was that you saw the band in the 70s or 1979?
