Nice one Drew, I would liked to have seen JM live - he was a bit cantankerous at times though!

Cheers,

Tim

PS I had to look up "Ferroequinologist"!!

Tracy Chapman's first album was indeed a masterpiece.
It tells a story of life's struggles in such a heart rendering way.
I'm not sure her subsequent work ever lived up to the giddy  heights of the debut album but that has been the case with many artists over the years.

I'll get round to fixing it drekkly me 'ansome.

I saw a documentary about JM on the TV, made just before died and he had just had the lower part of leg amputated. Clearly there was drink problem and he just came across as a bit of an unpleasant character - quite flippant at times. But there was no doubting his enormous talent as a musician.

I have never really listened to Tracy Chapman but do remember the impact of her first album.

Cheers,

Tim

Followed by Evanescence and a great vid

It's strange how things can pass you by.
I've never heard of Evanescence even though they appear to be pretty big.
Anyway, I've just had a listen and not really my cup of tea but nonetheless intersting,

I'm a huge fan of Fairport Convention.
For me the hugely influential Liege and Lief album was their finest work.
One of, if not the, earliest exponents of folk rock. Such a shame to lose Martin Lamble early on in a car crash and later Sandy Denny.
I also thought Babbacombe Lee, a concept album, was a fine achievement.
Many of the band's members have come and gone over the years, gone on to other bands or pursued solo careers.
Sloth indeed is a superlative track.
It's worth investigating some of Richard (and Linda) Thompsn's other work.

I have not heard "Sloth" before and what strikes me is how effortless and well recorded it is. I only have "Unhalfbricking" along with Sandy Denny's "Like an Old Fashioned Waltz" and "Gold Dust" Live at the Royalty. I think the late Sandy Denny has to be one of the best singers ever in the genre. I am not so sure about Richard Thompson as a solo artist - good guitarist though!

Now for a bit of fun.

This band is rather appropriately named - Model Railway Exhibition.

I know nothing about them except that they attract a massive monthly listener total of 5 on Spotify  :D

Anyway, back to Sandy Denny, here she is in a bit of a jazzy mood...

From her 1974 album "Like an Old Fashioned Waltz", every track is a winner!
