Hi,
Been listing all of Colin's great Union Mills locos. Colin has sent me his list of loco numbers, but doesn't have all the colours recorded.

Do you have Union Mills Dean Goods 2392 or 2414? Please share a photo of it.

Many thanks

HI Mark.   Here is the Dean Goods in Great Western Livery as out of the box although I don't know the reference number.   I don't have a B12 I'm afraid.

Graham
It is well known that a vital ingredient of success is not knowing that what you're attempting can't be done.

Currently packing all my model railway stuff for my move to Canada in April when a whole new chapter starts in Modelling.

Graham hi,

Thanks for the response, but it is locos 2386, 2392 and 2414 that I'd like to see photos of.
Many thanks

I think a lot of people on this Forum would be interested in seeing a comprehensive list of Union Mills locos with numbers and liveries.  Is it your intention to make the list available to others when complete?

I don't know if this will be of interest.  As my model is based on the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line in the 30s, I was disappointed that Colin chose to present 2516, which was shedded at Carmarthen, in BR black livery.  He very kindly agreed to make a Great Western 2516 variant for me, which is here running through Pencader.

Perhaps the proof that there is intelligent life in outer space is that they haven't contacted us.

Thank for that.
Did he then sell a batch of 2516 in Great Western, or just put number 2516 on one Great Western for you?

Hi, @mark ellis :

Thank you for your reply.  Great news about developing a list of all of the Union Mills' locos produced to date!

I would love to see your list of Union Mills locos in a format like in Engee Publishing's "Spotter's Guide to British Locomotives" or Ramsay's "British Model Trains Catalogue".

These two publications typically list each loco manufactured in the following format:
-   Catalogue number (unfortunately, Union Mills does not use catalogue numbers)
-   Loco running number
-   Company (LMS, LNER, BR, etc.)
-   Livery
-   Lined/unlined
-   Early emblem or late crest (if BR)
-   Years produced (again, not really applicable for Union Mills due to their batch production methods).  Perhaps just a date showing when first produced.

Personally, due to the increased proliferation of fictitious liveries, I would also like to see fictitious liveries also clearly indicated.  I know Union Mills have produced several non-prototypical liveries over the years.  (Yes, I know I am asking for a lot!).

Unfortunately, the 2020 edition of the Spotter's Guide to British Locomotives has some errors and omissions regarding Union Mills (e.g., the Union Mills LNER J38 is not listed, and the LNER Q2 is listed as a Q6) and the last edition of Ramsay's British Model Trains Catalogue (the 9th edition) was published in 2015 and is now out of date.  It is unlikely that this publication will ever be updated.

Hopefully, your endeavors will get us all up to date and correct as far as Union Mills locos are concerned!

Ian

P.S.  I have applied to join the Union Mills Facebook group and am waiting for approval.

Ian, if this site allowed us to post images directly then the list would have been on this thread.
It's on the identical thread in New Railway Modellers
