Hi, does anyone know of really fine chain.

Best I can find is 40 links per inch and I'm thinking more like 80 per inch would be what I am looking for for tie downs and water crane chain :)

Regards

Graham
It is well known that a vital ingredient of success is not knowing that what you're attempting can't be done.

Currently packing all my model railway stuff for my move to Canada in April when a whole new chapter starts in Modelling.

I've used this:

on this:

I think that is the sort of use you have in mind.

I've not found anyone who makes 80 links/inch.

Cheers,

Chris

A suggestion from a very fine US modeller, David K. Smith, is twisted wire beading needles.  An example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254897585436?hash=item3b59147d1c:g:LRwAAOSwPdNdRAmc

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I have ordered a couple of options mentioned above and will see what looks best when installed :)

Again,  thanks all.

Sorry, this may be a bit late but this is the chain I use:

I have used the 27 links/inch and found it very good for N gauge.  It is obviously also available in black with 40 links/inch.

I bought this in the United States.  Not sure if there are any suppliers in the UK.

Here is another option that will be easier to source in the UK:  N brass locos fine chain.  It has 48 links per inch.  Scroll down to "Chain".

Just received this, which doesn't look too excessively oversize;

It should look better when it's been blackened. Being sterling silver I understand that can be achieved with the help of a plastic bag and some mashed up boiled egg yolks - I'll find out when I get a chance to try it.

I have no idea how many links there are per inch, all I know so far is that it's darned tiny and manipulating it is like trying to catch an escaped chinchilla  :smiley-laughing:

I can't help thinking that your post raises as many questions as it answers!

I take it you've never tried to catch an escaped chinchilla, then?

Perhaps a wise man wouldn't have let the little bugger loose?

My mate did rather regret letting it  have a run around the house  :smiley-laughing:
