We've been hit 30,000 times from different IP addresses and are investigating.

Its a new site, URL is the same but the IP address is one the web spiders have not seen before and everything on the internet will be trying to index the site in real time.  Its a storm that should pass but it will get worse as they try to index the Gallery new or old.

I just turned off the Alerts system that loads on every page. Is everything loading faster now for everyone?

The boss decides the features I just look at the cause. Two things were done yesterday: I disabled that particular mod (sometimes they are poorly written or set badly) and persistent spiders were blocked.
